Awards don't pay bills and salaries.

After two decades generating many billions of loses and recently spending around $100 Billions on acquisitions pretty likely the higher ups ran out of patience with the MS game division and told them to stop the bullshit, accept that Xbox console and Gamepass are a failure, and turn the division into a profitable one:
  • Go full multiplatform focusing on platforms where they sell the most (mobile and PlayStation)
  • Use Windows instead of Xbox as their own platform
  • Forget the "Netflix of gaming" idea and focus on what really makes money in gaming: selling games and add-ons, particularly in GaaS
  • Focus on the studios, IPs, genres that perform better
  • Cut the fat shutting down games, studios (and fire workers) that aren't productive/profitable
They need to improve their profitability, specially now that the game industry revenue growth is stagnant and that pretty likely MS won't be allowed to continue growing via big acquisitions for a while.

At least the f2p titles, are consistently free. ABK got cod fans paying $70 every year + throws them in the monetization grinder. Idk how consumers haven't rejected it yet.
I use to be hooked on Warzone, it's definitely a good play esoecialky for ppl tht can't buy games like tht.

They get blinded by the streamers they watch like TimtheTatman, CourageJD etc, etc. As well as youtube video makers. It's never going to stop unfortunately.

Crazy thing is I used to be in this loop from 09-13. I was in middle/high school, I pretty much gave up majority of games releasing, mostly played cod. when I wasn't playing cod, I was watching a cod video on youtube. Most of those youtubers don't even like the game, they are usually just professional haters, it wasn't until I realized I was in a hate bubble did I step back from it.

Back then I thought it was finally dying but, a decade later it's still massive... Kotick is a remarkable businessman in all honesty, I don't think anyone in MS can run the ABK ship as well as he did.

I mean there really isn't a way to fuck up COD besides what Xbox is doing. They are a special breed of stupid.

Damn, if they manage to kill COD with Game Pass, it would be a big blow even for Microsoft. Bobby Kotick left the ship in time.

Why sacrifice your revenue generator like this? Hasn’t MS learned the lesson?

MS ain't the wounded animal they want everyone to think it is. They’re still trying to outspend the competition out of business.

They should cancel gamepass. It only made sense with hundred millions of users. Just honour active subscriptions until they expire but don't let anyone sub again.
