My point still stands and motivation definitely stands for something. Consolidation also does not mean it can only be on one console! Bungie is a good example of that. It's all about what's in the contract and what the company heads agree to.

Anyway I hear you.

Exactly.

Couldn’t care less whether games are exclusive or not.

The days of being against consolidation are over. Companies like Sony have no choice but to consolidate to survive.

Cause If it isn’t Sony it will be Tencent or Microsoft or someone else.

Anyway back on topic. The reviews have really surprised me.

Can’t wait to play it. If it’s anything like Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana we are in for a treat.

Nothing to do with consolidation but funding.

Imagine this team with Sony backing.

This is not a case of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, WoW, Diablo, Starfield etc going exclusive and cutting off millions of gamers.
This team didn't need Sony funding to make a great game. Sony funding is only needed when you're doing stuff with mo-cap and realistic graphics. Sony needs a dev like this more than they need Sony.

Bought a steam deck last week and I've been looking forward to this. Seems like the perfect game for the system.
Please share with us how much you enjoy the deck. I've been tempted since release to get one.

I don’t think Sony would be interested in indie dev studios. This also not a real Japanese game. Character designs and music coming from some Japanese but all the rest is being developed by western people. If Sony would look for an Japanese RPG developer they would look for something more prestigious…

All this for like under 60000, pretty enjoyable device to bring to work during recess.

Pretty good so far (1 week in). Set up a few emulators, playing Xenogears atm, tried out Switch emulator which ran well but really tanked the battery when using it handheld (~1-2h) so either used docked for this or use a Switch instead. Tried remote play both from PC and PS5 and for PS5 it was absolutely amazing. You get great battery life since it's streamed and the quality looks fantastic. Ran around in FF16 to test the latency and had no issues. The biggest downside is the battery, but depending on your use case won't really be an issue. E.g. I don't really game outside of the house for extended periods of time, so I can easily put it on charge at home and a few hours if travelling suits my needs, but this is likely the factor that would impact your enjoyment of the device the most.

Like Anonpuffs said though, a SD2 with some performance and battery improvements would be great. Really positive experience so far.
