Man if this merger happens Sega is going to be the first to jump in there begging MS to buy them.

Can someone clarify the previous SEGA talking points? They had some agreement to put data centers in their arcades, but then was it the arcade business they sold off to... Genda? What kind of a state are they in currently, or how likely/necessary to sell?

Xbox turns down Yakuza, waits for PlayStation to make Yakuza and Persona successful, swoop in afterwards with a big bag and now everyone acts like Xbox and Sega is a matchmade in heaven 🤦‍♂️ And the same Xbox fans that have constantly been trashing those "japanese pedo garbage" games for years are suddenly now the biggest fans. I really hope they never ever acquire Sega or any other Japanese company.

Are you high?

And that's me asking that. Not a serious post, right?

Yakuza selling more than ever. Sonic selling well. Street of Rage made a good come back. Total War is going strong.
I hope Sega stays independant

Wtf is this biased headline. Why is Sony mentioned? They told Bloomberg they don't want to be acquired and Microsoft is the only party who tried to acquire them as far as we know.

Are we to expect a similar headline when MS is forced to abandon the ABK deal?
"Sony and Microsoft blocked from purchasing ABK"

Sega's management is moronic if they feel close to MS. It's been articulated in this thread already but they are devaluing their games and diluting their audience.

So Sega doing bad business decisions have nothing to do with it?

Historically they have made the worst business decisions of any platform holder outside of maybe Atari (though Microsoft are gunning for their spot).

Just a brief rundown:

-Poor QA and investment into STI (Sega Technical Institute)
-Pushing FMV games hard on Sega CD in the US instead of bringing over more of the Japanese games
-The entirety of 32X as a device/business strategy
-Growing corporate infighting between SoJ and SoA
-Panicked redesign of Saturn in light of PS1's specifications
-Complete secrecy with earliest Saturn dev kits (the pre-Sophia ones)
-Poor early optimization tools for Saturn development
-SoJ withholding Saturn devkits and hardware from SoA until the last minute
-Sega letting go of the Genesis & MegaDrive ad agencies for the Western market when Saturn released
-SoJ forcing SoA to surprise-launch Saturn in May '95 (SoA alienated most of their American retail partners)
-Sega holding back on Virtua Fighter Remix port for early May Saturn launch (it was ready in May but they wanted early adopters to double-dip)
-Sega not locking down Core Design when they had the chance (or even signing a publishing agreement with them)
-SoJ cancelling Saturn sequels for Streets of Rage, Eternal Champions (competed with VF, supposedly), Vectorman etc.
-SoA hiring Bernie Stolar
-Bernie Stolar pissing off Working Designs
-Bernie Stolar's BS "Five Star Policy" preventing majority of Japanese games ever getting English releases
-Bernie Stolar publicly saying the Saturn was not their future at E3 1997 (3P quickly cancelled many in-dev Saturn games, giving PS a ton of exclusives by default)
-SoJ rushing the Dreamcast launch in Japan (poor Power VR2 yields, buggy releases of Sonic Adventure and gimped VF3 port)
-No DVD support in Dreamcast
-Sega being stupid enough to leave a MIL-CD exploit in the system BIOS
-Peter Moore pushing $199.99 MSRP for US Dreamcast (SoJ wanted $249.99 to take less losses due to poor Japanese sales)
-Sega being unable to draw in bigger 3P support due to alienating MANY devs/pubs with 32X and Saturn
-Sega not accepting EA's offer for Madden support & exclusivity on Dreamcast (they did not choose 3DFx)
-Sega overspending on Shenmue and relying on it too much for the Western market at that time (game wasn't flashy enough, for starters)
-Okawa wanting Sega to go 3P even before the Dreamcast's release

Go ahead and sell to Microsoft, Sega. You failed out of the console market and had to become a 3rd party publisher... now you can fail out of the 3rd party space and wither and die under Microsoft and serve as a cautionary tale to others. Complete the cycle of bad decisionmaking, do it.

They're idiots. SEGA was conned and backstabbed by Microsoft.
Funny thing about that great relationship sega & Microsoft supposedly have is Microsoft tried to buy nintendo when they first wanted to move into consoles & got laughed out the door that's when they made the Xbox they never even approached sega who a that time I'm sure would've loved the financial backing of Microsoft instead they just used them for a few exclusive games

No creative company should be looking to sell.... Unless there is a very specific value or advantage to be unlocked.

Maybe if a company is on the brink of financial ruin.

Sega selling to Microsoft would be a disaster for all it's IPs and a disaster for its creativity.
I've always found Sega and Sony to be similarly aligned anyway. What are PS indies but the modern equivalent of Chu Chu Rocket's push for DreamCast? Or Sega Channel a 90s implementation of PS+ with games entering a monthly subscription rotation.

Didn't somewhere in there SOJ foist off the last part of production and the burden of sales for the CD, 32X and the Pico onto SOA? Almost to keep them busy whilst they plotted their own Saturn specs.

Am I correct in thinking we never got a Saturn-MegaDive combo console? That cartridge slot didn't play MD games did it? That's where the money would have been. Saturn library lacking say, a Sonic and a Streets Of Rage? Fuck it, the most successful older console and the new hot shit together in one system, covering the library shortfall of the other (ahem: fuck cd/32x)
