Yesterday Shawn Layden appeared on Whats Up PlayStation Podcast to join Jaybari and Persona for their 100th episode - contains some great insight at approx 22 minutes (timestamped)

Also if you have time, check out SickHumorTV4K's intro just before that.

Interesting Chat, it kind of sounds like Tencent really wants to get away from the CCP and be its own thing?

Their podcast was the 1st time we found out that Jim Ryan wasn't behind PlayStation games going to PC

Come to find out it was Shawn Layden 🤯 but he's a good guy and PC doesn't matter at the end of the day. But day and date on PC would drive some PS fans to PC

I hope he is happy at Tencent

That's great news, hope it's true. I mean all tech companies are going to be somewhat roped in with world governments to at least some slight degree, that's just the way it is. But the more bigger ones like Tencent can distance themselves from governments like the CCP, the better. Now if a few tech conglomerates here could do the same with the American government 😏

Also big ups to WUPP, this is the 2nd time they've gotten Shawn on as a guest IIRC.

Well I have to say JayBari and Persona did some magic to get him on their podcast twice.... but it feels good to be able to get some of this great info out to more people.

Enjoy Bro!

Yeah that's pretty good on them; I wish it were possible a podcast or two could get some Sega of Japan executive from the MegaDrive & Saturn eras on. The amount of stories they could serve up would be pretty much endless xD.

Tentent already is its own thing, it's a private company.

But asking them to get rid of the CCP is like asking MS, Google or FB to get rid of the Pentagon, CIA, FBI plus people from Republican and Democrat parties.

I think that the USA side has definitely taken a turn for the worse in terms of "private" entities being little more than extension of the gvt'.

However, the situation in China is on another level (hopefully).

Private in USA means that all major tech company must include in all their hardware or software (including major OS and social media) dozens of backdoors for most of their spying agencies plus several more from ally countries. And in several cases even to have people linked to these agencies on their board of directors.

They obviously are worried about Chinese doing the same than them, and not to allow USA & allies to do that on Chinese hardware and major OS and social media, specially if these products get an important market share. This is what happened with Huawei or Tik Tok.

The problem these days is that any publicly traded company is not strictly speaking "private" (this is not about the law, this is about what it means to be public or private).

The minute governments or unions own part of a company and sit on the board these entities do not really have their own interest anymore, and injection or ESGs in there only make them more integrated in this logic.
