When they purchased Activision Blizzard phil Spencer did this whole song and dance about how companies outside of gaming could potentially hurt gaming. For example he explained how google, facebook, amazon and big tech could buy companies and destroy them and what they mean for gamers.
Yet, it all appears that Stadia is winding down it’s streaming game service according to this new email.
Also, it looks like facebook/meta is not interested in traditional game companies, they are losing billions on VR and have only been going after VR game companies which have all been rightfully blocked by FTC.
So what were these big companies that were gonna come in and buy up all the big 3rd party publishers? The only behemoth tech company i see buying publishers is Microsoft themselves. It’s like they positioned themselves as the good guys (hey guys here’s free games) so that people won’t acknowledge such an hostile form of western capitalism at play. Microsoft are literally buying good will just so they can aggressively take more ownership over the market.
There is no big tech boogeyman aside of the one sitting in front of our faces telling us there is.
