They missed their forecast by 3+ millions last year. It's so embarrassing if they miss it again and have to lower it to 15 or 16 millions 😬

The tweet from Mochizuki Bloomberg will get more attention than whatever they say at that meeting. Astrobot will be their saving grace.

The Pro launch came and went with no hype at all. The big news today was all about Xbox. Kojima did good work with his husbando Phil, their plan to hijack the launch went flawlessly. Kudos 👏
Nobody cares about a 5 year old game going to a dying console.

Decent Earnings.

Disappointed with Astro Bot.

All the outrage about Japan Studios and why Sony doesnt make these games.

Well now you know.

Astro Bot the almost perfect game with a Metacritic of 94 and GOTY material sold 1.5 million copies.

Imagine what the other games from the original Japan Studios sold.
For all intents and purposes it's the studios debut release on mainstream hardware. It will be slow burn for sales because Team Asobi barely has an existing fanbase to work with

It's selling at about the same rate as It Takes Two, which sold 1 million in its first month and eventually topped 20 million 3.5 years later with momentum from GOTY awards helping

They succeeded in this business by providing a balanced catalog of bigger, trendy and smaller, more niche games.

Getting that right is what opened the floodgates to the money.

Whatever the class or genre of game they need to make money.

So if for PS6 Sony went the Nintendo way, with a lower-powered console to reduce the costs of development and only kid-friendly games which sell double-digit millions, you would be perfectly fine?

Games like Astrobot, made with an adequate budget, make money. Varied catalog and profit aren't mutually exclusive.

Agree.

Whatever Sony makes needs to make money.

Reason why Team Asobi and Astro Bot will be fine.

The same reason Japan studios was closed cause they were bleeding money.

You got all that from my post?

Sony aren’t Nintendo but they do need variety in their games.

Yes. If money making is the only thing that matters and one of the biggest issues is development costs, going the Nintendo way is one perfectly possible scenario.

Would you be ok with that? Simple question.

At this point, these people are just corporate shills.
Fuck gamers, shareholders should be happy, their 5th plane inside aren't from elephant bone yet and 3rd jacht still just 50 feet long...

It’s not that simple.

The PlayStation audience is conditioned for AAA blockbusters.

Astro Bot is arguably the best Sony game this generation.

It sold 1.5 milliom with 37% of buyers being users who never bought a game for the last 2 years.

Sony needs a balance of big budget and small budget games.

It really is that simple:

Would YOU be ok with it, yes or no?

The PlayStation audience is conditioned for AAA blockbusters.

Not really. PlayStation is the company behind things like EyeToy, Eye of Judgment, SingStar, Invizimals, Buzz, PlayLink games, Wonderbook etc.

Games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Puppeteer, Escape Plan, LocoRoco, Patapon in ADDITION to AAA blockbusters.

Astro Bot is arguably the best Sony game this generation.

It is, together with Returnal. None of them are AAA blockbusters.

It sold 1.5 milliom with 37% of buyers being users who never bought a game for the last 2 years.

Never bought a FIRST-PARTY game the past 2 years. Significant difference, and an additional proof that Sony's audience is more than GaaS and AAA blockbusters fans.

Sony needs a balance of big budget and small budget games.

Yes, but the last time I proposed to add teams/people for such projects, some weirdos argued about how expensive employees are.

NO. Playstation needs variety. You can’t put your eggs in one basket.

This game was also completely ignored by 64 million other users.

98% of Playstation 5 gamers.

Significant difference.

Ok, let's assume you have variety (like Nintendo does, but that's not the point and I DID ask regarding the kid-friendly games), but they would still have an underpowered console next-gen to counter the ballooning of development costs.

Same question: would YOU be ok with it?

This game was also completely ignored by 60 million other users.

95% of Playstation 5 gamers.

Significant difference.

So is it a failure or a success? Should Sony make more or less of this kind of games?

It Takes Two sold so well because its momentum was carried across multiple platforms. If Astro Bot wins GOTY it needs to be ported to other platforms and get a major ad campaign.

That would upset some fanboys, but it would be great for Team Asobo and the Astro Bot IP.

PS5 exclusive its going to top out probably at 5 or 6 million units. If ported to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and PC... It would probably have the chance to do closer to 15-20 million units. The difference is night and day...
