If I remember correctly you and Brazil also have weird taxes around games companies

We have insane taxes. Right now is between 75% to 80% per game depending in wich part of the country you live. So if you see $60 game on steam you actually end up paying $105, of course we "have" regional prices, but taxes are so high that it doesn't matter that much.

Is it not like an import tariff for pretty much a load of things, including games and consoles?

Only fair, but Sony has to realise that many PC gamers are actually really tight when it comes to buying games, and are also happy to wait it out for sales.

Argentina seems to have a suspiciously high gaming population. :unsure:
They have a lot of gamers, like everywhere else. But in their case the economics there are a shitfest, so they can't a afford to pay a lot for gaming. And for that reason most Steam games are cheaper there than in most other countries. But in addition to this, Argentina has an absolutely insane inflation skyrocketing every month. So prices adjusted.
