The Switch wasn’t around in 2016 and no one knew how successful it would be in 2017. Now that they know how successful the Switch is, this is Sony and MS responding to that. This should have been in development from 2016 - 2017... Instead they decided to waste money on that total sales failure that is PSVR2
Sony already had the concept from Vita or we collectively forget how hard they were pushing remote play during the PS4 first two years? I was convinced at one point they were gonna do a Remote Play bundle but it never happened. The Switch wasn’t around in 2016 and no one knew how successful it would be in 2017. What would you like to see from a modern portable PS device in terms of functionality? It was the next logical step and they fumbled and now have to play catch up yet again.
A device with access to their entire PS+ library, offline play for every PS1, PS2, PSP, Vita, PS4 / PS5 game along access to whatever mobile games they publish. What would you like to see from a modern portable PS device in terms of functionality?
They did have the concept from Vita. But remember, before the Switch, the handheld market was seen as declining. People thought it would be killed by smartphones. But the Switch’s massive success has proved that there is still a market. As long as you combine the game libraries.Sony already had the concept from Vita or we collectively forget how hard they were pushing remote play during the PS4 first two years? I get that but I'm saying they should have been working on it from then. They had the foresight to try and pivot the VITA into being a remote play / mini PS4... The hardware just couldn't keep up as the years went on. It was not gonna be a stand-alone portable, it was gonna be a mini Playstation with streaming capability... They had a 100 million base they could have catered to and especially in Japan where it would have definitely expanded the market for them again for the PS5 generation. The hype for PS5 was out of this world and imagine them tying this thing to that initial hype. They did have the concept from Vita. Next time just @ me A.I bot since you wanna emoji react to my posts. And I wasn't aware 2016 - 2017 was the struggling PS3 days LOL! You just wanted to come in here with your usual uninformative substanceless word drivel posts where you regurgitate already known information acting like you had some intel.A lot of hindsight merchants here, but Sony didn't have a viable option for maintaining two platforms when the PS3 was struggling so much. Not only are they back on good footing, but they can move forward with a unified library. It's an absolute no brainer for Sony.
What? They already have their entire library of IP.If they want to release a new handheld, they really need to buy a publisher like Square Enix or Capcom. That way, they’d have access to a solid lineup of games and big franchises to make the handheld worth buying. Without that, it’s going to be hard to compete or get people interested.
It will be mandatory for the console version to be compatible with the handheld for whatever console it's supposed to emulate. Sony is banking on the PS5 spec having a long life - see Switch extending PS3-level tech by 8 years. It won't stop you enjoying the latest games for high end consoles any more than different PC specs do or the Switch stops/stopped you enjoying or held back PS4/5 gamesI hope if these rumors regarding a portable PS5/PS6 are true, that devs won't have any mandatory requirements to make the portable version.
Otherwise it will be a Series S situation once again, with games being held back for the whole generation because of it.
As long as you combine both console & handheld into 1 + it’s cheap ($400-$500) & has many many permanent exclusive games. Something PS doesn’t have. They did have the concept from Vita.
