Maybe he does.Do you have Gamernyc on ignore? There are two threads on the same subject (PS2 classics and the MAU)
Well PS4 was already $299 so nobody cared about PS3What was it like back then, PS3 vs PS4 migration ? Just to have an idea.
Yeah I know ppl tht got their hands on a ps5 just to try it due to the hype. The more popular Helldivers 2 gets the more people will look to buy a PS5 as well. It's not a traditional system seller, but it might keep PS5 afloat during these slower summer months because it isn't playable on PS4, though ironically, I bet Sony wishes it was.
Basically the top 20+ most played games on PS5 are also available on PS4. So people keep playing them on PS4 because the game they like to play continue there. In the past people got rid of a game on a week or two for most cases. Nowadays the most popular games are GaaS, and with GaaS they play a game for months or years.Sony president: PSN has 118M MAUs, half are on PS4. What does Sony need to do to bring them over to PS5?
Great breakdown. Thanks.Basically the top 20+ most played games on PS5 are also available on PS4. So people keep playing them on PS4 because the game they like to play continue there. That means the PS4 and PS5 generation will last longer because players are happy with these games at least as long as they continue getting support and they don't get a next gen only sequel.
The publishers have to release more top performings like Helldivers 2 that are PS5 only to make people want to make the jump. Over time will happen with GTA6, Rainbow Six sequel, FIFA/CoD, Bungie's next game Marathon (or Destiny 3), etc.
These were the most played games on PSN (not only PS5) in the last 30 days according to PS-Timetracker:
Top MAU games for PS5 in 37 markets according to Newzoo:
It's also worth mentioning that according to Sony said in past years there isn't only a record amount of people still active in PS4 at this point of its generation: they also having record engagement for the PS4 at this point, mostly thanks to GaaS/F2P.Great breakdown. Thanks.
As you can also see there, most of the top 20 or so played games on PS are GaaS titles. A player playing these games means they aren't playing another game at the same time. So basically this, plus the fact that most of these games are also the top grossing ones, make big publishers like Sony or Microsoft want to have their top performing GaaS titles.

So they are making money with PS4 too even if PS4 hardware sales are super low right now.
