37% of the people who bought Astrobot had stopped buying first-party games for the last two years.

I wonder what happened in recent years that would lead to this change in buying habits... 🤔...

Meme Think GIF

More poor analysis from you.

We're talking about 555K people who didn't buy Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarok for the most part. Both games that sold extremely well and are among the best selling PS games of all time...

But somehow you're going to fixate on 555K people? Not everyone is going to buy every game.

The reality is that a lot of kids will be playing this game kids who are otherwise preoccupied with Fortnite.

I mean if you stop releasing first party games then there's nothing to buy Sony lol.

But good! Make more games that target different audiences, who would have thought

Have they said this about their multiplat strategies? Maybe take a hint, Sony?
Yes.

They also reported that their first party games generated outside PlayStation 120297M yen ($787.62M) during the last year (the 4 most recent quarters) and keeps growing. Soon they'll generate over a Billion per year.

This is a financial report for their investors and regulators, they would go to jail if they lie here. This must be true, can't be bullshit.

Sony didn't say they had stopped buying 1st party games, they said instead that they didn't buy 1st party games in the last 2 years.

Meaning, some of them are users who only bought 3rd party games instead in the most recent 2+ years, and other ones are new customers who never bought a first party game before.

They explained that the game did help to expand their audience in the kids/family friendly games segment.

Maybe they should’ve followed Nintendo strategy & made Lego Horizon exclusive to bring in that family audience into PS & hope they had crossover w other PS family friendly games like Astro Bot. Maybe even do a Astro Bot TLOU DLC or Ghost of DLC to synergize w the TV show/Movie & monetize there games more w fun dlc.

That makes me feel a lot better about how aware they're being about appealing to more players.

Time to invest in niche games....again.

Things like LBP, SOTC and Folklore
LBP, Patapon, Gravity Rush, Ape Escape, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper are all no brainer. I’d say exploring more aggressive prices like $40-$50 would lead to new user (younger) to explore more PS games then the ones that are $70.

Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, LBP & Ape Escape need to comeback & be annualized, those are easy games that can be easily made & don’t require larger scopes or big budget. Both coming from there main studios & license to smaller 3rd party studio or publishers like Bandai/Sega to ensure annualized games

Herm short sighted, I wouldn’t put it past Herman to release the Horizon Monster Hunter type game that has the Valorant/Fortnite art style on Nintendo Switch 2 day 1 but somehow skip PS4. It would also explain why it’s been taking so long for it to be reveal
