Either which way you look at it, Sony will never have the marketing rights for COD ever again, which is a huge boon for Xbox. Every single year, those commercials will be ending with an Xbox logo forever.

Imagine CoD ads on TV with game pass day 1 banner. That oughta get some butts in the seat.

yep, but it's a toxic customer base at the end of the day, and any decent marketing department can leverage the general disdain for COD and COD KIDDIES in the connoisseur gaming market.

Sony's marketing department right now should be looking at ways to distance themselves from the franchise and the consumer. Paint them in a bad light, demean them, and remind everyone of how toxic, unwelcoming, and passe the COD franchise is.

Make playstation seem like a place for connoisseurs and real gamers VS a casual COD kiddie baby box in Xbox.

This damned franchise is nothing but a thorn in the industry's side and needs to be taken down a peg. it's time for other, smaller developers to get a bigger piece of the pie. Fuck Call of Duty. I won't buy a single one moving forward and I urge everyone who owns a PlayStation to do the same.

People have been clownin Call of Duty for years. Thats why everyone always says, “this is ign they give COD a 9 every year” cause everyone knows it’s such a dog shit franchise at this point.

The only reason people are excited for it now is because they are using it as a weapon in console wars. Sony def needs to stop promoting it ASAP and find out something to fill the gap

Worst part about sonys showcases was having to watch a 5 minute gameplay trailer for the latest CoD which always looks the same. Most people that play CoD don’t even watch these shows, spare us.

yep, it's really going to come down to Sony to put their foot down at the end of the day. Even if MS keeps the franchise multiplat, they'll probably bake in some sign-in on the playstation's end to funnel PS users into their Xbox MAU, devaluing playstation in the long run.

Then they also have the marketing rights forever, and everyone knows COD is a walking Xbox advertisement after the acquisition closes.

if MS makes it exclusive, then they kiss the #1 franchise moniker goodbye, and COD's numbers get shrank in half, and COD gets completely overtaken by other franchises still on PlayStation.

the only way forward for sony is to just take it off the platform and don't let MS get their way. Never let them use PS customers as MAU. Never let them hold COD content and dlc hostage.

MS is playing a very dirty and devious game buying full publishers outright. this is unprecedented, and an act of war. it needs to met with complete hostility.

Imagine one of the most profitable games on the planet, you buy the company, take it off a yearly release schedule, take it off a platform where it probably sells 70% of its copies, then give it away free on gamepass?

Let the fans run your company into the ground over console wars

I stand by that if COD goes exclusive then Destiny will too

While Destiny is not as big as COD it is the second biggest FPS franchise of last gen

I think both sides will play friendly on this. Neither gains as much as they lose by going exclusive

CoD brand name is only smaller to GTA.
When we talk about decline it is basically telling that CoD instead to sell 40 million a year now is “just” selling 20 million a year.

I don’t think it is possible to create another CoD band name in today industry but hey maybe some Publisher can try.

And Halo and Battlefield? Really? These two games at peak probably never reached the sales of the lowest seller CoD.

Call of Duty name is huge even today.

Using old data CoD generated over $30 billion in revenue and over 425 million copies sold.

Halo in general has never been that big of a game. I think the highest selling halo (3) did 12m copies

Fucking what 😆

Even if you remove CoD, the PlayStation best sellers list will still be full of GTA, Madden, 2k, etc etc casual shit.

which is why if you're sony, i would right now be looking for a replacement, and to ween my customer base off of the COD crackpipe no matter the cost.

Attack this damned franchise. Pull the games from PlayStation. Don't feature them anymore. tear it off like a bandaid.

don't let MS get what they want.
Xbox had the marketing right for CoD before, it won't be a huge boost or anything like that. Marketing right one the platform that sells the least only hurts the game.

People really overestimate CoD, once again Xbox fans hanging on to unrealistic expectation just to end up even more frustrated.

Lets say MS pulls every CoD from PlayStation after Warzone 2/MW2 and put them on Gamepass. They'll have destroyed the sales of future games by then. Once you look at CoD as just a F2P game there are plenty of games like it. If I was Sony that's exactly what I would be hoping that MS would try and I would compete directly against it by partnering with it's competitors and by funding similar games.

Halo in general has never been that big of a game. I think the highest selling halo (3) did 12m copies
That is pretty big for a game that's only on one platform.

For once i agree more with MS than Sony

I think in all honesty this would be good. Too long Sony has relied on COD. I think still they will make lots of money off of warzone. I also think this will push them to be more aggressive in making games, and doing deals with other games.

The only thing I dont like is this really feels like MS straight up is being dishonest. They need COD more than Playstation does 100%. They need this deal to go through because their internal studios still are not cutting it.
I do wonder what Sony will do with Bungie titles and Destiny going forward once this deal closes.

If for some random reason it gets rejected which pretty sure it wont, but if it does, Microsoft is fucked.
I have little faith in anything they have internally been working on.

If it does go through, I forsee a big push for Sony buying Deviation games, and Deviation aggressively recruiting top COD people if they haven't already.

Some of the craziest spin from each side. The fact one franchise is causing so much PR spin shows how important it is in dollars and cents. None of the platform holders should own it.

Exactly, if it takes MS $70B and even making CoD exclusive to be competitive with Sony so be it. When MS removes CoD from PlayStation it will be a great opportunity for other games/publishers to occupy that space.

Absolutely on point.

The only reason this sale is really going through and I think many have lost sight of this.... is to bail Bobby Kotick out, give him 500 million to 1 Billion to sit on till death.
