Market's a lot healthier now but do we take this to mean switch is more direct competition than previously thought or that PS5's price is still too high to post and maintain PS4-level performance?

Crazy how well switch is still selling despite being so old. Nintendo sure knows how to support their hardware

Likely the former. Hence why all these new buzzwords like "premium console market" or "high-end console market" are just BS; systems like Switch and PC (Steam) compete with player time & money against PlayStation just as much if not even more than Xbox does these days. It's because they aren't carbon copies of PlayStation why they're able to do so relatively successfully, again unlike Xbox.

So when I've been mentioning things like Sony doing more 1P AA games with legacy IP, securing more exclusives & investments into Japanese devs/pubs and restructuring their PC strategy for larger/longer windows (or even no ports) of non-GaaS titles to the platform (specifically Steam), this type of stuff is what I keep in mind. You can't grow in Japan if you don't have 1P or 3P (maybe through 2P) exclusives that appeal more to that market's tastes. You can't grow in places like China & Korea if you're giving away too many of your GaaS to PC (Steam) or ceding your big 1P tentpoles to PC (Steam) in increasingly smaller windows of time.

I mean you can "grow" in the sense of some marginal to decent revenue increases perhaps, but you could've grown a lot more in revenue and software/content margins if you got those gamers to get a PS5 console to spend that playtime and money on instead. That's what I really mean.

Great numbers for rebirth.

Much smaller userbase on ps5, ps4 was at peak numbers when remake launched.

As well as maybe digital taking some of that share compared to remake.

For now with the UK and Spain Data we can say FF Rebirth do better than FF XVI but worse than Remake (of course PS4 userbase was much larger).

I think the big jump here from WiiU to NSW can partly explained because in 2016 there were Vita and 3DS there as the portable console market, which now is represented by NSW.

The PS change could be due to higher pricing + post-covid financial crisis + maybe shortages at the start of the year.

Yes, apparently Rebirth has less sales but better attach rate than remake. Which may mean that over time as console install base grows number will get closer or who knows if Rebirth may end selling more. It's also worth mentioning that games are more expensive now, so in dollars Rebirth should perform better than in units compared to the previous titles.

Does Spain include digital or is that all physical?

Edging closer to 95:5. Interestingly PS5 sold 50% more than both console competitors combined. We need a return to the PS2 days of grand canyon domination.
