Did those idiots really add Bloodborne and Marvel's Spider-Man? Two first-party exclusives? What baloney!

While this is a legitimate business practice and part of Sony’s strategy for driving affinity for its console, it brings harm to any consumer without a PlayStation platform. Absent such agreements, I would have been able to play games such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Bloodborne, and Marvel’s Spiderman on my Xbox.

Neither of those games are first party... Sony doesn't own From Software, and they didn't own Insomniac at time of release.
Both games are first-party.

Sony owns Bloodborne IP.
Sony has the game license rights for Spider-man IP.

And to be fair where you get that bullshit that to be a first party game it needs to be developed by Sony? You can have first-party games developed by 3rd-party studios.

Yeah both MS and Sony will typically refer to games they publish or fund/moneyhat as first party. Most of these in the past would be considered second party but that term seems to have vanished.

It makes sense. Before they acquired Playground, didn’t everyone consider Horizon to be first party?

First party doesn't mean owned, it means developed by...

Yeah, no.

Just because a Title that a platform owner owns the IP of isn't developed 100% in-house does not mean it isn't still first party. If you own the IP and are paying for the game to be developed via a contract and are the sole owner of IP and the sole publisher of IP it makes it First party.

Bloodborne though developed mostly by From Software was a development deal between Sony/Japan Studio/From Software and they own Bloodborne making it first party title since they are the sole publisher and owner of said IP and paid for IP to be made.

You are veeeery very wrong.

So Crackdown 3 wasn't first party? Sackboy Adventures? Returnal? What about Metroid Dread? Ratchet & Clank? Resistance?

A console manufacturer can fund external studios to develop games based on IPs they (will) own. Games would still be first party (or second party to differentiate with games built inhouse).

In case of Spider-Man, Marvel asked Sony to make a Spider-Man game, Sony chose Insomniac as a dev. While Spider-Man as a character is not owned by Sony, Insomniac's "Marvels Spider-Man" is a first party game. No one else outside of Sony could ever create a sequel to it set in the same "universe".
