Sounds like a whole new game almost
Most expensive way to purchase the game with the least amount of content it's ever had

It's the same as basically any Sony "remake", it's not really a remake. It's the base code and geometry reworked with a facelift.

I will play this again once it reaches the PC. It's been a long time since I played it on the PS3 so I forgot nearly everything.

I'm going to play it on my PlayStation 4 level Steam Deck while laughing as Sony completely skipped the PlayStation 4 for this release LOL.

Very true. And it can be setup to probably look better than the PS4 version (if it existed).

Well the PS4 version exists since 2014.
I see no reason to launch this new version on PS4 if it already has it own version.
Well I will say even that new PS5 version feels off to me but I can understand and find reasons to it exists... TV Show, PC port, etc.

Because the game has changed in a big way graphically. The Steam Deck will be able to run the new graphics while the PS4 can't.

I still thinks we don't have enough userbase to have separately forum fro Tech/Analysis.
Basically nobody will even see it if it posted here so the move for me is weird.

Anyway more analysis.

Edit - Summary.

Basically 5 modes depending of your TV support and your choose between Fidelity or Performance.

60Hz modes120Hz modes120Hz + VRR modes
Fidelity (4K, 30fps)Fidelity (4K, 40fps)Fidelity unlocked (4K, 40fps+)
Performance (1440p, 60fps)Performance unlocked (1440p, 60fps+)

  • In 60Hz modes they advertised Performance as being Dynamic 4k but it is 1440p native.
  • 60Hz Performance offer a very smooth and stable 60fps even in intense scenes.
  • 60Hz Fidelity is a essentially a straight 30fps throughout but there are some frame delivery issues.
  • Fidelity 40fps modes doesn't have enough headroom over the 30fps line to take full advantage, and instead you just get a more inconsistent presentation often in the region of 35fps.
  • Unlocked Performance 60+fps produce frame-rates in the 60-100fps region, most often 70-80fps.... The trade-off here with the regular performance mode is essentially slightly less consistent input response and animation in exchange for a higher general frame-rate level. Really only worth if you have a television that enables VRR without disabling features like local dimming.
  • Unlocked Fidelity is considerably better than its v-synced counterpart too. We're mostly in 30-45fps territory but VRR keeps frame-time judder in check. The frame-rate inconsistency is much more obvious to me here than in the unlocked performance mode, but I'd still consider this clearly preferable to either of the v-synced fidelity options.
  • There's also the option of enabling VRR on the system level and leaving the 'unlocked framerate' toggle off in the game settings. This works essentially as expected - the performance mode runs at a straight 60fps with any momentary dips beneath smoothed out and is a reasonable option if you prefer an ultra-consistent presentation. Fidelity mode seems to work in the same fashion, but with low framerate compensation enabled - so just like the unlocked fidelity mode but with a cap at 40fps. It ends up feeling quite similar to that mode overall.
So, the final verdict. Of the five actual graphics modes on tap, I'd only advise against one - the 4K 40fps fidelity mode without VRR - due to its inconsistent performance. The other modes offer varying degrees of fluidity and consistency, but all have their own reasonable merits and tradeoffs. My personal preference is for the performance modes, as I didn't find that the boost to 4K made enough of a visual impact at typical viewing distances to compromise frame-rates. I'm particularly partial to the unlocked performance option and its VRR-fueled smoothness.

Agreed. But we will in the future. At least everything will already be sorted out as opposed to making the Tech/Analysis forum from scratch and moving a shit ton of threads to that forum.

Yes, but a merge would aid in acceleration to the end goal, why stifle things in a growth phase. I support a merger with aim to review in time.

But that’s one man’s opinion.

What we'll do is move the latest topic to the Games forum for a given time and then put it back in Tech. That way it doesn't stay in Games forever.
