All:

What is your favorite character that shows the best animation you've experienced? I'm talking about melee combat (not ranged). Before all of you Sony fans start calling out exclusive game characters - think harder as you will be challenged with your pick if it doesn't add up.

Mine is definitely Talion from Shadow of Mordor. I've never seen such smoothly blended animation when combating several enemies at one time. All of his animation just flows correctly even when you do executions in the middle of combat. He's very well animated to me and probably the best animated character of all 3rd person action games.

Easy, when it comes to animation ND is above any other dev:

Weird that you limit other people choice to melee combat but post a video where the guy uses a bow all the time.

If you want another Batman-like game like the one you posted I would say Spider-man.

You are picking Sony games because you like Sony. Put the blinders down for a moment.

Why do you think TLOU 2 character is better animated than everything else out there? What makes it superior to Talion's moves. Also, what about AC games? They have incredible mocapped animation with excellent blending.

Spiderman's animation is way too "snappy" and not as accurate as Batman.

I would say both Batman AK and Spiderman, which share a similar combat, are better than Talon. But I agree that Shadow of Mordor is very good.

How are they better? Batman AK + Spiderman have their animation "snappy" so you can tell there is some discontinuity there when going from foe to foe. Talon doesn't exhibit this snappiness. It's perfectly smooth and blending.

That doesn’t seem fair. TLoU 2s animation was so impressive at reveal people thought it wasn’t even possibly real.

This was the game that came to mind for me too, and I don’t even like it.

I think I know what you mean, especially in Batman, but SoM "cheats" there, as it teleports via arrows to distant enemies. I haven't played any of the three since ages, but having a look at gameplay videos of all 3, I still think Batman and Spiderman are smoother.

I'm asking for receipts. I saw that video and it looks good. But I need to see Ellie fight multiple enemies to see how well it flows.

The actual in-game animation is quite good, but the reveal was definitely bullshot level. There's several scripting elements and animations which are not as good as in that reveal.

Because it is, it's pretty obvious that all the animations of TLoU2 are on a league of their own. You trying to somehow disregard it just because they are a Sony studio is ridiculous.

I have no intention of convincing you, anyone who isn't blind can see how good the animations are in TLoU2. It speaks for itself.

Shadow of Mordor sucks by the way and shouldn't even exist, it disrespect everything that Tolkien created and is above anything else a complete abomination.

Wait, you didn't play it?

Pathetic that you still hang on to conspiracy theories when the game already released and you can see it for yourself, unbelievable...

It has been proven that 34 frames of animation is the best to animate with as it looks on the brink of reality and that animators like 34 frames the most as its easier to work with.
If you need to learn more just Google Rule34 and find out all the information you need to know.

Ellie in TLOU2 is the most well animated character. Simultaneously having the biggest range of animations and the most well animated.

Once you play and realise there a ton of permutations to how she moves just dependant on how you start moving, the camera placement, the environment, body position, momentum and it's all motion matched so there are no weird cuts in the animation

General animation:

Combat is also on a different level. Not just the options in movement, but the minor tweaks that make each encounter feel unique based on how it animates relative to what the enemy is doing. And how well the movement and contact when fighting is sold

Combat:

The best thing about it is how it all works together, it makes everything feel truly seamless and like there is an appropriate response in the controls to any action I want to make.

You mean the game I played, beat and already did direct comparison of the animations and scripting? Yeah, that game... I didn't say it was bad princess, I said it's not on the same level as the reveal, it's still excellent.

Don't get your panties in a twist.
