I guess most of the employees must have nothing to do all day but “beta test games” so that’s probably why.

Because if you quit your job prematurely, good luck getting a new job.

The whole full-time employment system here is kinda a hostage situation for both sides. Even at retails
Sounds like a job youd have anywhere else tbh. Can’t quit A job and expect to be hired if you worked the prior job for a month.

It will be a stain in your CV, even on different field or industry. You have to testify on how you quit your job, since it is really hard to register employment status and social insurance nowadays, even harder than let's say 20 years ago.

So I’m assuming you live there?

Cool to visit, not cool to live in IMO. Horrific work culture, high suicide rates, low worker productivity, very old population etc.

It's a dangerous dynamic in democratic countries... when populations grow older, they have the voting power and the politicians lean heavily towards their needs. Making it worse for younger generations, more difficult for them to have families, to buy houses, to live healthy lifestyles.... usually exacerbates all the issues.

I really feel bad for people stuck in that 'salary man" type of situation. Not only the government policies but culture in general is oppressive for them.

That’s absurdly impressive, although perhaps colored by some unfortunate things mentioned above.

Hopefully Japan rediscovers their work/life balance, which seems to be a lot of the problem. I’ll love whatever project comes out of the kind of passion of making your job your life, but you gotta live your actual life sometime. For you, and your culture, and the future of your country.

Apparently the united states works more hours than japan does. I think on average the world's birth rate is faltering not just japan's we got the problem here in the states but then again it could just be news writers doing anything to generate clicks.

Here is the thing.

Birth rate problem also a South Korea and beginning to emerge in China. So it is not really
just a Japan problem. Japan has long past the golden generation(people in 80-90s). Hell even my generation(2000s) is already in decline, decline in electronics industry and semiconductor and most of them moved to South Korea or China. And South Korea and China gonna suffer the same fate after 20-30 years when their golden generation past.

The only way to "fix" it is through mass immegration which gonna destablize the country, and we don't the the US defense budgets to solve that.

Quality immegration like US don't work because, we are not really the centre of the planet like them. Not even in Asia, since they all rather go to United States, because why would you even bother go to Japan, there is nothing to offer besides from low-skilled labors.

Also United States pulling a lot of strings in their allies, the moment they see any allies has something surpass them, they gonna pull another Plaza accord.

I notice that china was excluded from these lists quite a bit. China's one of the worst places to live with a actual populace that is unable to reproduce due to many different factors they solve that by hiding their actual population and false economic growth. But as for japan I don't think mass immigration would work unless they open up more and suggesting to do so causes a problem with the natives of the land. I don't think these asian countries have a long plan term to keep themselves alive. And yes the U.S. unfortunately does have the world at its fingertips.

I think Japan has put laws into place as of the end of last decade to stop excessive overwork. I remember Sakurai from Smash Brothers talking about how he had to adjust his approach.

The difference being the US workers actually work those extra hours. In Japan extra hours are often the result of archaic work culture, for example leaving before your boss (even though you finished your tasks/work for the day) is very frowned upon in most workplaces, so you end up staying longer for no reason. Also, efficiency iis not appreciated. If ia am somehow able to do my tasks for the day in 3 hours and someone stretches that workload to 12 hours, the other guy that stayed longer will be much more appreciated. Since extra hours equals more work done (not) and shows "commitment" to the all powerful and respected company. Like I said a very sick and horrific work culture.

It’s a shame. I know I’m simplifying things, but have more babies seems like a problem with an easy answer. But it doesn’t seem like that’s where things are trending culturally.

It’s interesting because a baby boom or two later, it feels like you guys would start to be moving in the right direction, even if things were weird due to the existing generational damage.
