Sources familiar with Sony’s plans tell The Verge that Sony is asking developers to create a new PS5 Pro-exclusive graphics mode in games that combines Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling to 4K resolution with a 60fps frame rate and ray-tracing effects. Insider Gaming first reported on some of these Enhanced PS5 Pro game details last month.

While Sony wants this new mode in games, the PS5 Pro “Enhanced” label will still be available for a variety of other scenarios that include 30fps games. Developers have the option of increasing the target resolution for PS5 Pro games that run at a fixed resolution on PS5 or even increasing the target maximum resolution for games that run at a variable resolution on PS5.

From what I understood you have some options to get the "Enhanced" seal:
  • Create a PS5 Pro mode with PSSR 4k, RT and 60fps.
  • Increase the resolution of a PS5 mode (or the max DRS if using it).
  • Increase the framerate lock/target of a PS5 mode.
  • Add RT to a PS5 mode that doesn't have it.
Any of these options will get you to the "Enhanced" seal.
Of course a developer can choose to do all of them or combine some of them... the point is at least one of these needs to be implemented to get the "Enhanced" seal.
It is very similar to how PS4 Pro "Enhanced" seal worked.

All of them requires developer work, time and money to happen (this comment is just to some guys in the last thread thinking it was Magical done automatically lol).

As expected, basically allows devs to include additional extra PS5 Pro specific graphics modes to take advantage of its extra horsepower to get one or various of these options depending on the game:
  • Extra resolution, both native or dynamic depending on the case (up to 4K)
  • Extra fps (up to 120fps cap, but as usual 60fps or even 30fps targets will be more common)
  • Extra RT (or make RT PS5 Pro specific if the PS5 base version didn't have it)

This entire article can be summed up with:

"If a developer does nothing to enhance their game for the PS5 Pro it will not be considered enhanced for PS5 Pro and not be labeled as such"

That's what all the words in this article add up to.

Another shite article from Tom Warren just repeating shit already leaked

Yeap but some people here believes there is not developer work and that everything is doing magically by PS5 Pro 🤷‍♂️

If dev doesn't put their finger in the game to make these Enhancements happens then you will be luck to find the titles that have unlocked framerate or DRS to see some improvements.

Same happened with PS4 Pro.

If you're happy to settle for less, there's no reason for this thing to exist. Settling for less is selling us a more expensive PS5.

"Greatness Awaits"
"Best place to play"
"Only on PlayStation"

"Happy to settle for less"

On a more serious note, Sony should place a warning on all games that only have 30fps modes, force devs to own up to their bad decisions. :ROFLMAO:

If this is out in September, that means we only have to wait like 5 months. Fuck yeah!

Most PS5 games have a 60fpa option already, and I mean almost all. Why would sony settle for less on a more powerful PS5 Pro? Lol

Oh, Tom Warring...

Still do not see the point of a PS5 Pro, but if it doesn't guarantee 60fps then scrap it.

And this is my problem with Sony they allow these narratives to run wild about everything they do these days.

Wait... where you guys expecting something different from that?

There is no way to guarantee 60fps if the game is already using the CPU fully at 30fps.

Anyway the framerate is a Developer choice... not the Platform holder.

I believe 90% of games this gen are GPU limited. There are few games such as BG3 and that other medieval game full of rats that are limited by CPU.

You can't expect miracles from the hardware either. I am also completely comfortable with 30 fps.

If this enhanced mode is indeed real then this pretty much insured that PlayStation 1st party games will continue to offer us 60fps performance option because Sony will make it a mandate for their studios to provide this new performance mode. More importantly, this enhanced mode will further sink Xbox since it's coming across that Microsoft doesn't value the importance of a 60fps mode for their games.

There are few games 30fps only.
But more games will probably be launched in the future.

But the point should be which games have a better 30fps mode than 60fps mode? And you see that even on Sony first-party games have these.
Some tried to remediate it with this new 40fps mode (that means games that can go over 30fps but can't sustain 60fps).
