From day 1 Microcock thought they could just buy their way into the industry, they don't innovate or create new interesting ideas.

This is the same issue with the Epic Games store which thinks they could just buy their way into having a store.

On the game console font yes they are failing but look elsewhere. They already have a foothold in gaming in the PC landscape and it’s likely to grow. The xbox was made to showcase the Microsoft api. The end goal is to further development of windows that’s always been Microsoft’s goal.

Any company could become a successful 3rd party publisher after spending $80 billion to acquire the leader. Hell they could've saved everyone time and just done that in 2001 instead of entering the console market.

To my recollection Activision wasnt merged back then and was doing well At that time. They didn’t need to be bought back then. Id also say that they want to control a portion of gaming then theres no better way to do that than buyout a publisher So no matter what happens they still have Sway in the market if a player like valve ever tries ditching windows in the future they might take a hit in their profits to do so.

I'm sure Microsoft saw the growth of Game Pass before the Zenimax acquisition and thought Game Pass would increase significantly over the next 3 years. They probably thought the same thing right before they agreed to acquire Activision.

Over the past year, Overwatch 2, Diablo IV, Starfield, and Redfall were all released with some backlash. They likely had higher expectations for these games that would significantly help grow Game Pass and that may not even be the case. Now you have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which is one of the lowest rated COD games. This would have helped Game Pass a lot but now they're going to have to hope for the next COD installment.

Microsoft no doubt had much higher expectations for all their major releases. They took games off the biggest platform and they're hoping to recover the cost from Game Pass, PC, and Xbox.

What I don't understand is why Phil Spencer & co aren't fired the fuck out of there already. It's been a decade straight of continual failure. These aren't the first games that have disappointed. If they can't find anyone internally who's willing to step up (and with an excess of 200k employees I find that highly unlikely) then they need to find someone external who can come in and clean house. That's if they're really committed to the gaming thing and not just doing sunk cost fallacy because their revenue numbers will nosedive without it.

One literal who poster from one message board isn’t indicative of a mass turning. Most of the Xbots we post about are literal MS employees posing as forum/Twitter warriors. There is no convincing them of anything. Look at that restera sales thread and the shills stick out like a sore thumb, bradtross and vixelopus here’s to you. Hope that MS check is worth it.

Virginmedia, here in Ireland, is offering a free Series S if you add TV to your broadband plan 😂

They must spend a fortune on advertising and giveaways / trials.... PlayStation has NOTHING like all these offers.

Discord free GP ultimate, Pringles and Mountain Dew, Free Series S consoles with broadband that has nothing to do with MSFT....

Also, as Ive said many times before, MArketing for Microsoft is not attributed to each division.... it is simply accounted for as a company-wide expense. Which is hilarious when you see some people trying to say "accountability margin" is the same as profit or operating income.

This is why claims that "Xbox" and "Gamepass" are profitable are disingenuous at best. Their marketing, and more than likely their cloud expenses, are not attributed to the division. Those are two massive vectors that will likely cost multiple billions per year.

Even if Microsoft throws a trillion dollars at the problem, it isn't going to make people care about Xbox.

They literally have to give this thing away for free and even then people don't care.
