Sweeney is emailing Gabe Newell and Scott Lynch, and begins by outlining his problems with Apple, before telling them about the imminent launch of the Epic Games Store. This is a direct competitor to Steam and, credit where it's due, Epic put its money where Sweeney's mouth was by launching with a flat 12% platform fee. Sweeney wants Valve to respond to this, mainly because it'll strengthen Epic's hand against Apple, but he's clearly not had too many lessons in the gentle art of persuasion:

"Right now, you assholes are telling the world that the strong and powerful get special terms, while 30% is for the little people,"
writes Sweeney.

"We're all in for a prolonged battle if Apple tries to keep their monopoly and 30% by cutting backroom deals with big publishers to keep them quiet. Why not give ALL developers a better deal? What better way is there to convince Apple quickly that their model is now totally untenable?"
The next day Valve's Scott Lynch simply replies: "You mad bro?"

Tim Sweeney is viscerally repulsive. Good to see Valve showing Sweeney the level of respect he deserves.

We have the side-by-side. On the one hand, you have Steam. It takes 30% (down to 20% over $50m revenue), and offers world class features and service. On the other hand you have Epic Game Store. It takes 12%. It sucks to use. It's barely improved after 6 years, and it doesn't have many games. It doesn't compete with Steam on equal footing in any capacity. There's no reason for it to exist, and users are rightly rejecting it. It's a shame that great developers like Remedy and Psyonix are wedded to this garbage platform.

Every single PC game launcher other than Steam sucks ass. They all claim they're going to improve and none of them ever have. If it was easy to do what Valve is doing, we'd have a dozen great portals into PC gaming. In reality there's only one.

Wtf, Tim smokes strong stuff:

"an authoritarian government (not China) is demanding that either Epic alter Fortnite on iOS or Apple block it, and we'll be responding with a memo on the human rights principles that would be violated by either action.
...
Right now, you assholes are telling the world..."

This guy is retarded: in the same letter tells Valve that are going to open their own store to don't pay them the 30%, insult them and ask them for help to don't pay Apple the 30%. The reply instead of "You mad bro?" should have been "FUCK YOU!"

Valve, Sony & co. should do the opposite of what they are doing now:

30% share for big pubs, less for Indies/small devs to help them grow.

A weirdly cunty article that doesn't have anything interesting to say. The headline content is clear great news about Valve and how effective they are as a company (you could dig deeply into why that is if you're a journalist), but it's filled with all these bullshitty barbs:

Steam "belches out cash" - huh?

Steam "might be the best option out there, but monopolies aren't great for anyone" - who asked you?

Steam's 30% fees are "notably high when compared to some other online platforms" - actually the industry standard, and misleading since it goes down to 20%

Very strange and uninformed perspective for a website dedicated to PC gaming enthusiasts.
