Howard discussed the long wait between new Bethesda games during an interview with Kinda Funny Games on Monday.

You know, they do take a long time, and so I think one of the things we’re focused on here is obviously making sure they’re of the highest quality, but also finding ways to increase our output, because we don’t want to wait that long either, right. It’s never our plan, but we want to make sure we get it right.”

Off the back of the successful launch of Amazon’s Fallout TV series, the franchise appears to be more popular than it has ever been. Howard was asked if this has resulted in Bethesda considering the possibility of partnering with external developers on, for example, more non-numbered series entries like Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas.

“I would say we’ve always had those conversations,” he replied. “We did a lot of things for the show. It might seem like there isn’t a big new game out, but we added content into 76 for the show. 76 has a really great map expansion that’s coming this summer with Skyline Valley.

“So, we look at what we’re doing with the franchise and say, do we still feel good about – I can’t reveal it now – our runway for Fallout as a franchise? When is season 2 happening? What are we doing on mobile? What are we doing on 76? What are we doing with this thing? What are we doing with this other thing? When are these landing?

Also maybe new project.

majority of public doesn't care about mods. but majority of gamers cares about graphics, performance, quality of the game.

Meh. Majority of the public can go play their cinematic sad dad simulators or ubisoftian open worlds. BGS RPGS are unique. For better or worse, no one can replicate what they do.

And updating the engine won't fix the issues Bethesda has with storytelling for example. You can have great games on old engines, look at what from software has been doing for the past 15 years.

We have seen it time and time again, it's the Bethesda RPG cycle. New Vegas was bashed like hell when it released now it's a cult classic.

They already take forever to make vanilla, janky and bug laden games. Contracting the development time sounds like a great idea!

They are unique in how shit they are. Not wanting them to change engines has to be some sort of Stockholm syndrome.

Wrong. Rockstar’s open world’s destroy Bethesda’s at every level.

And bethesda's mission design? Lmao

Yeah but don't bring rockstar of all studios as this panacea of innovation when their missions are:

1 - Tailing (including endless exposition to "develop" characters) then shootout. Then lose cops/rival gang.

2 Chase (chased car has super armor or NoS boosts because the mission is meant to end in a specific place.

3 - Hordes

4 - Shoot one guy with sniper rifle

5 Races
