During the campaign, Trump said he’d impose a baseline 60% tariff on Chinese exports. If he does that, the price of all the stuff gamers love is going to go up. Laptop prices could spike by almost 50%. The cost of video game consoles could rise around 40%, making the upcoming PS5 Pro cost almost $1,000. The Switch 2 may be backward compatible, but it may cost quite a bit more than the original.

If you were planning on upgrading your PC, building one from scratch or even buying a console, it might be wise to pull the trigger on it before Trump is inaugurated on January 20, 2025. The price after might skyrocket.

American products assembled in China like iphones, consoles and Dell laptops would probably stay out. Unlike Chinese products assembled in China like BYD cars and Oppo phones.

There's nothing to negotiate, it's a tariff on American companies doing imports, so the cost of those tariffs will be passed down to the consumers. China doesn't pay the tariff.

Every economists thinks the tariffs are retarded.

Edit : Some targeted tariffs can work, like in the case of 100% tariff for Chinese EVs done by Biden administration, because we had reason to believe China was doing what is called "dumping" of overproduced cheap EVs that would've tanked american EV manufacturers. But blanket tariffs are dumb and inefficient. Some manufacturing jobs actually came back under Biden without need for tariffs.
