That’s according to multiple development sources, who told VGC anonymously that a follow-up game was in early development at Ubisoft Quebec, but company leadership ultimately decided to cancel it earlier this month due to perceived challenges around establishing the IP.

The original Immortals, which was also developed by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey studio Ubisoft Quebec, received generally favourable reviews.

Ubisoft’s intention was to grow Immortals into a franchise, with journalist Jeff Grubb reporting last year that it intended to explore different mythologies other than Greece with future games, such as Hawaiian Polynesian myths.

The original game saw players controlling a forgotten hero on a quest to save the Greek gods. Later, the game’s DLC explored Chinese mythology by having players take control of a new hero, martial artist Ku.

Sources told VGC future plans for Immortals were cast into doubt after the company decided to pivot towards its most prominent brands.

The game wasn't great (I didn't even finish it) but at least it wasn't just AC again. Alas, that seems to be what Ubisoft wants most, more AC.

Guess the company is in trouble if it can't afford a modestly successful title like that one

This rumor sounds credible.

The first one wasn't a major hit as other blockbuster Ubi games, but was successful so I can see there wanting to make a sequel.

But in January they decided to cancel a few games from non-top IPs to cut the fat, so if they really had a sequel under development or in preproduction I think was a very good candidate to get canned.

Bummer, I enjoyed the game. Combat was enjoyable and the story was silly and fun.

This was the odyssey team and they’re back on AC. Remember noticing this game doing kinda well with players.

Ubisoft didn’t trimm any fat. They are still bloated af with 20k employees. Most of their projects got delayed and delayed over again. Ubisoft is mediocre as it’s best.

Damn I thought it performed good.
It did, Ubi was happy with it. But it was far from the huge success of AC, Far Cry, Rainbow 6, The Division, etc.

They needed to reduce some costs and wanted to do it without massive firings, which meant they had to cancel a few expensive games without a lot of sales potential. So if this sequel ever existed, would have been a good potential to be canned.

Guess the company is in trouble if it can't afford a modestly successful title like that one
It isn't in trouble. They simply have a gazillion huge games under development and needed to cut some fat, so maybe it's true they cancelled that if it was under development.
