This comes from the reliable french game journalist "Gautoz" who heard from multiple devs at Ubisoft Montpellier the news.

Internally, the fate of the game was already decided a few weeks after the release of the game, it was clear in Spring that after releasing a few DLCs and Cosmetics it would be the end.

A few members of the core dev team fought to get a sequel greenlit which did not happen, then they pushed for two expansions hoping that it would work this time but it didn't since Ubisoft needed more hands to help on other projects that had a better sales potential which wasn't the case with Lost Crown not meeting sales expectations.

Another crazy justification that the dev team received from higher-ups was that releasing a sequel for the game would cannibalize long term sales of the first game.

I've heard and read "It was the best game production in my entire life" three or four times in a single week-end while getting informations on the game's dev. One after the other i was told it was seen as a beacon of hope to create and a safe space for people that were burnt out by BG&E 2, the team has been disbanded by Ubisoft.

Whats crazy about that? Once a generation, just like Nintendo told them with M+R.

Apparently this was a very good game, so if even such a game isn't getting support in the future...

...yeah, Ubisoft is cooked.

Ubisoft's reputation is so in the gutter that only its biggest games can push through general apathy from the general gaming community. That's a really hard hole to get out.

And yeah, it's a great game.

Such a shame. One of the best games of 2024.

They can make the best thing since slice bread and I still wont buy anything ubislop puts out. They are firmly in the category of derision and apathy for me.

They launched it on a subscription service so the sales shouldn't matter 🤔

I bought it on PS5 and finished it. I thought it was great but they changed the main character to someone else. I don't know why studios keep doing that with iconic characters. So lame.

There were probably still sales targets they had outside the subscription service which they missed. Or focus group surveys for a sequel were tepid during a period when they're trying to refocus on their product pipeline.

We'll probably never know, unless they allude to it in a financial report, which probably won't happen.🤷‍♀️

It's a business, not a charity.

You build a studio around making bigger budget metroidvanias...you deserve the consequences. That looked bad on paper from the start.

Heard the game was great. Maybe the price point was an issue? Character swops rarely go well

They made a prince of persia metroidvania in which the MC is not the prince of persia. This is on top of setting on the IP and letting it fade into irrelevance and making that godforsaken movie adaptation with Jake gyllenhaal. Anyways the ubislop brand is just plain toxic

I'm an ubi dickrider and I simply don't care about what someone has to say about that. This game (from what I heard) was great, I didn't play it because I don't really like the genre much, but Ubisoft has been slowly worsening themselves in the public eye by pretty much releasing the same games, even adding mtx to those games, I never thought someone could add MTX to a single player game but they went ahead and did it. I only dickride UBI because their games are pretty much my childhood and as I aged I played almost every single assassin's creed game to boot minus Rogue and the sidescrollers. I am hyped for shadows though I won't be getting it anytime soon as I have so much shit in my backlog.

BO6 coming out on my 24th birthday, somehow I'm a slave to Overwatch 2 right now, I still need to play Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, I just got Barotrauma and intend on playing that with a group of friends, I've been wanting to play SP Tarkov for a while now as well. So many things coming out or things I have yet to do and it just piles up more and more as more games come out, Stalker 2 is 100% on my list.

Shit, so Rayman is truly cooked now? Damn

"We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe."

:)
