I know the FTC are trying to get similar laws passed here in the US but they will have a more uphill battle, for the reasons others have already mentioned WRT lobbying and just more corruption in politics in general. I mean look at all the senators MS have money in that came out to attack Sony :/

But in general, this is a great move and IMO needed in order to protect the stability of these various tech markets. Especially with the Big Tech companies, they already have more than enough resources to do anything they want in terms of growth aspirations. Just get more creative with what you have.

I just want to remind you guys that just like sales do not matter, neither do regulatory bodies or governments.

It'd be cool if we did something similar in the us. I'm not going to hold my breath on it though.
God could come down from the heavens and promise to cure cancer and deliver world peace but only if the usa agrees to strengthen the doj and ftc and the usa would still say “nah”😂😂

Not for me personally, i can't remember anyone acting so brazen like this in regards to not getting their way.

To actively challenge the authority of the Cma, to tell a regulator you have no idea what they are doing is a new one for me.
It's Microsoft, they used to behave like this when Bill Gates was around as their leader. There is a reason they were by far the most hated tech company int he US back int he 90s.

Nothing matters except Xbox and Microsoft.

They just got slightly better at pretending and people fell for this new repented MS. Deep down they were always the same shitty and corrupt company.

Personally if I was responsible for security for any state and I saw the reaction MS had with their talks about security I would be re-evaluating the country's relationship with them. You know, just in case they screwed up our security as retaliation.

So it gives a vibe of we can't trust Ms with anything security related at this point, they are too unstable.

Absolutely and TBH, US and UK should be pushing to break MSFT up and nationalize the parts that are relevant to security.

The rest should be cut into 2 or 3 companies. One cloud, one for windows OS and a final one for their other businesses like office, Linkedin etc.
With a rotating member from FTC sitting on the board to make sure everything is above board.

They should also have to be far more transparent than they are, their financial reports are a joke.

I’d say the OS should be one company, office apps another, azure another and linkedin should be divested.

There's Elon Musk wanting to incite a coup in Bolivia after the socialists there took power (meaning his company wouldn't be able to exploit lithium mining interests there)
Then there's all the US escapades in South America leading to the term "banana republic"
American corporations paid assassins to kill labor leaders in South America
Again
US State department blocks minimum wage increase in Haiti from $0.24/hour to $0.61/hour at the behest of American corporations.

Just because they don't usually throw a tantrum like this doesn't mean anything. Corporations are completely without ethics if they can get away with it, as long as it makes money.

That would work, I didn't give too much thought to it yet but I think the way you broke it down makes a lot of sense.

Microsoft is too big and has too much cross-market power, too much lobbying, too many contacts / politicians in their pockets. THey have too many government contracts and too much depends on just one company. breaking it down is not only better for the markets but better for security, as it isn't just one big target.... and a change in management might get some of the toxicity out of there too.
