Hope nobody forgets that many in the media and especially american media cheered on the ABK and Zenimax acquisitions and now that the sales and reach of the games are impacted, they are trying to cover for it byt either not addressing the fact or by focusing on how it might / could / potentially be beneficial for Xbox down the line.

So Xbox sales are down significantly and the games of the publishers they bought are also significantly down.... so what good was ANY of it for the industry?

Good for the industry meant they were being taken care of and their Xbox grift and perks would bring more value gain for them down the line.

I dare Nadella to take CoD away form PS. the faster the quickest CoD is going to die. better for everyone.
The logic for them would be that for the number of people who play CoD some portion of them are bound to move to xbox, some of these will buy games or get GamePass... and hopefully it will be enough to make up for whatever market share they believe is "theirs".

They would need a couple of games like CoD, preferably with both quality and mass appeal.

will be interesting to see how COD sells next year wiht no playstation marketing and bundles and having it on gamepass.

Take away the pack in sales and 20% of xbox sales, along with diminishing playstation presence.…I have a feeling it might not even make top 10 on NPD.

Crazy talking. it will still sell pretty well. A decline doesn't set in like that or that fast for a franchise like this.

Yep, all the publishers, regulators, politicians, journalists, media, governments, unions and indie devs fought massively on an unprecedented scale for this deal to go through...why? No other business deal in history will have this much support.

Sony became public enemy number 1 for being the only one against the deal.

There’s a reason why Activision needed those Sony marketing deals in the first place. That stuff doesn’t just fix itself because Microsoft bought them.

Microsoft is going to have to do heavy lifting in place of sony now in marketing the games and keeping it profitable. Just because COD makes a shit load of money a year doesn’t mean it doesn’t also take a shit load of money to keep it afloat.

They have 6 different studios working on one game franchise that needs to release every year. Any amount of slip up is going to cost them. Kotick wouldn’t be so anxious to sell the company if it consistently growing.

Kotick didn't want to sell but end of the day he had no choice once the overlords were all for it.

Sony needed the deal as much as Activision wanted the partnership come on. Don't forget Activision still offered Xbox marketing first however at the time Xbox had their budgets slashed and couldn't afford it.

And I am not disagreeing about the production up cost. I am saying it's very unrealistictic a brand like COD implodes In a year to the point it will miss the top 10 of NPD... Be for real.

What we were told throughout all this is that COD is a misstep away from bringing financial ruin to ABK, so Kotick was wise to sell. Well, here we are, with the biggest misstep in franchise history happening under Microsoft's watch. The brand is severely diminished, and if it's not back on track by next year, the Mierdas Touch will cement its legacy.

Microsoft and these studios going bankrupt will be great for the industry

I didn’t say it was going to implode in a year but I can see a huge drop off. A franchise that big is a machine that needs to constantly be greased. If you do something major to change up how it earns its money (take its presence off its biggest platform, put it in asubscription service on the other instead of charging 70 dollars for it) it can easily break.

Call of Duty isnt just some perpetual money machine that requires no effort to run. It’s a major platform of itself built on a very shaky and unstable annual platform. there’s a reason Activision became a Call of Duty factory, and pretty much put all their studios on it. It requires a shit load of resources to maintain

Microsoft can barely market gamepass and its primary platform in countries outside the US and UK, and now they are going to have to try and do it for Call of Duty.

It will be intersting to see

Great point. I was thinking myself what next years cod marketing will look like without Sony footing the bill. I do think Ms will attempt to go all out with it but I also wouldn’t be surprised if for some reason COD 2024 gets delayed.

also Shawn Layden said this…

Microsoft now have 22k+ employees with half of them already unionizing and the other half in talks of unionizing. On top of now having to market and support an entirely new and gigantic publisher.

The 69 billion dollars they paid for Acitiviosn/Blizzard is gonna feel like pennies in the long compared to how much cost they will be taking on post merger. Thats why I warn people about Sony buying a publisher, even in economic downturn you have to be responsbile for these people and companies. Look at what embracer is currently going through.

No amount of money from Microsoft is going to save xbox/activision/zenimax if they aren’t becoming profitable

As I said Its pretty unrealistic a franchise like COD will decline in a year it fails to make the top 10 of NPD next year which is what you said. That's what I disagreed with and it's pretty crazy to even assume that. Something will need to go very very very wrong and the next COD has been in production before this acquisition.

Nothing needs to go drastically wrong. Just looking at the UK sales for MW3 show if those two variables i name greatly changed it leads to a huge drop off.
