It's hard to believe that Switch is in the top 9. I thought it was going to be in the top 5/top 3.

In UK since launch it sold less than PS4.

I don't think the situation really changed... Switch records sales are due outside UK.
You can see that in France for example where TotK sold 500k physical units at launch while in UK it was less than 200k physical units.

Remember only in November 2022 Switch finally beat Xbox One sales in UK... that is not something to grab about... it is behind PS3 (at least Chris never said anything about passing PS3 this year yet).

UK is probably one of the few places PS5 tracks way ahead Switch.

NSW had a slow adoption rate during launch year.
Yes, like all the consoles.

They all have low yearly sales the first year and the yearly sales keep growing until they peak around typically the 3rd or 4th year, and from there their yearly sales keep decreasing until the console get discontinued. Sometimes the curve is longer or taller, or has the peak sooner, or later, but basically all consoles have this pattern.

In UK it is still slow... lifetime sales are over Xbox One and below PS3... let's not talk about others consoles.

I will let this here:
  1. Nintendo DS: over 12m
  2. PlayStation 2: over 10m
  3. Xbox 360: 8.9m
  4. Wii: 8.5m
  5. PlayStation 4: 7.6m
  6. PlayStation: 7.2m
  7. Game Boy: 6.6m
  8. PlayStation 3: 6.1m
  9. Nintendo Switch: > 5.7m
  10. Xbox One: 5.7m
* Consoles sales in UK as of November, 2022.

It's also a portable/different market and people should never compare it.

I think it can be very comparable with others places.
Switch success is due places outside UK... the sales in UK were always in the low end with no record breaking numbers like happened outside.
It was not just launch... after 6 years it is still trying to surpass PS3.

360, PS4 and PS5 paces in UK are way faster in UK than Switch... that is odd when you look at others countries where Switch really have some top tier numbers.
It is something specific to UK I believe... even in US Switch sales are way better relatively.

Fucking lol. Slower than the PS1, Sony's first foray, and almost as slow as the original Xbox.

Switch had stock issues for the first 2 years, it was actually pretty hard to find up til I bought one in *edit*2018 which is when they started to be able to be found on shelves, this is in the US
Didn't Nintendo sort of think that it may be a flop and they used the Tegra SoCs from nvidia because they got the remaining stocks for a relatively good price?... so at some point they had to restart production of this chip just for the console?

Not sure where I got this idea, but it was not clear at all that the Switch was going to be a success at first.

Idk I just remember reading articles about how it was hard to find and never seeing one in store until I randomly was able to get one at target before the holidays, iirc I picked up one of the two on display
