Ahead of the Retail PS5 Pre-Order launch, the PS5 Pro has sold out at PS Direct.
I would theorize here that Sony has released its unsold allotment to retailers now that they've largely maximized their direct-to-consumer sales. When selling to retail, they get less than MSRP (between 5-15 percent less), so it advantages them to sell direct to consumers.
It will be interesting to see how supply lasts at individual retailers and at launch on November 7th.
I created a thread recently about how the PS5 discounts in October were potentially a bad sign for Sony in terms of reaching their forecast and I still believe that could be the case, but it almost immediately transitioned from an analysis thread to a doomers thread.
Similarly to that thread, the PS5 Pro selling out on direct is a sign that they can no longer surge additional production between now and launch and no longer have significant pre-launch units that are not designated for retail.
It's also very possible that Sony is trying to limit base PS5 availability during the holidays to try and entice people to buy the PS5 Pro out of desperation, but we're going to need to see more data to support that hypothesis.
