Just curious, I've bought so many different consoles/handhelds throughout the years and between the Vita and PS3 those two felt the most premium in my hands and also were obviously ahead of their time in regards to other consoles

Had Bluray
First to have full stereoscooic 3D
Full 5.1 surround sound
The phat had BC

Amongst other things. I even loved the shiny look and Spiderman font.

The Vita

The og had oled screen, first of its kind.

Had motion sensing and gyroscope controls.

Loved the UI and controls were on point.

Honestly I miss both of those consoles and have been really thinking on buying them again.

I still have my original launch PS3, which felt very premium back in the day, heavy af also.

Can’t think if anything else really.

nailed it in the OP. PS3 is a beauty. That black is like 15% transparent and looks even sicker in person.

Vita, the custom analog sticks are like space age tech. It's cool that Steam Deck has full sized console sticks, but Valve uses off the shelf parts which are nothing special. Sony designed the shit out of those sticks.

Great choice OP.

For me it’s a tie between the PS2 and PS3.

The PS2 being a console and a DVD player was something special at the time.

It was cheaper than stand alone DVD players too.

PS3, largely due to the price and original Xbox because of the HD and multimedia stuff. Throw in Neo Geo too, which is the only truly premium model to have more than like five games. Its a small list and full of losers. Middle or lower level of entry is what the market usually wants.

In terms of hardware definitely the vita/steam deck. Though feature wise when I first received a Gameboy SP the backlight for the display felt extremely premium, same thing for PS5 OS when you first set it up.

I would add the PSP. Hell it might be the winner. For it's time, all the features it had? It was like a portable PS2 with features to be seen on the PS3.
A lot of people forget the PSP felt so far ahead at the time it releases. It was one of the first 16:9 screens I remember seeing on a mobile device and it being a MP3 player, Movie Player, and Video game Machine with extra's like Skype and an optional camera add on made it feel like something from the future. Also it looked so slick at the time that it is hard to believe it turns 20 in Japan later this year

For me it was the Atari 5200. I loved that the controllers had 4 side buttons, 3 top buttons, a numeric keypad, joystick and the top of the console opened up to store them. The piano black with the brushed nickel was ahead of its time for consoles. The converter for the TV, power supply were well thought out. The bottom had a slot that also let you hide the power cord in side of it. It was quiet, it was quick and I only ever had one issue with it and that was that I wore out the side buttons on one of my controllers. For me it was the Bentley of any console including today. No console has ever made me smile the way that one did when I opened it and played it.

For those who don't know what this is, its either the chunkiest or second chunkiest console ever released, and is comparible in size to an OG Xbox.

Launch PS3. It was easily the most impressive console ever made, with the hefty price to match. Mine birthed playing Virtua Fighter 5 and died playing Dark Souls II

Nothing will ever beat the OG ps3, I really wish it had a better launch and it didn't have the Cell issues.

I really liked the road Sony was going with that one
