Games are tuned easier than they were used to generally speaking. Normal tends to be too easy and usually hurts my experience with the game. Harder difficulties tend to require actually understand how to play the game.

Not crazy about being given options either. I would like the game designed for its difficulty and pacing. Original RE4 on GameCube was tuned perfectly at the time for instance. But options are better than having to beat a game once thru to unlock hard mode etc…. If a trophy is tied to it even better… I’ll go for it and probably enjoy the game more because of it.

And then you have cyberpunk where I’m playing on hardest and still broke the game to one shot everything within first 10 hours. They’re not fixing that. Any difficulty in that game is just randomness.

I very much dislike easier games. If it’s a shooter or brawler I kinda have to go to harder difficulties always. Ive been playing these kinds of games for decades. And to be honest, i play games to be challenged… not watch a movie.

Reminds me of The Witcher 3 in deathmarch difficulty. The game is extremely easy. A wonderful game but that was its worst problem.

Normal or, if it isn't available, hard. Basically, whatever the intended difficulty setting is.

I don't have anything to prove by playing harder difficulties and gaming is something I do to relax, so I almost always play on the easiest setting. I get really frustrated when I'm playing a game and just keep dying. If it's a game that I'm serious about getting the platinum for and a harder difficulty is required, I'll give it a shot, but generally I stray away from games that require you to play the hardest difficulty for plat.

With PlayStation titles, which are largely story driven, I just recently started playing on the easiest setting and actually training myself to gradually learn the mechanics. Back in the day I’d go the hardest possible difficulty, taking a more sink-or-swim approach. I would much rather drop a game than lower the difficulty at that point, but I recognized that’s not fair to the game or myself.

Depends on the type of game. If idc too much about the game and just want to get the story i play on normal, if i want to take my time and enjoy it i play on hard. I don't often choose the hardest difficulty

I used to play the most difficult setting ages ago. Now I play on Story mode because I spend so much time traveling with my wife around the world that I need to finish games sooner that later.

My only exception are racing games. Gran Turismo, Forza, Assetto, etc I play the campaigns at highest skill.
