What game were you first exposed to, as a child or adult that got you into gaming?

I'll go first obv: Super Mario Bros. Getting old as fuck.

My dad worked at the solid waste division at the landfill and he brought home an Atari 2600 with a ton of games that somebody had thrown away.
Smells like a bs story but its plausible. What game for that system interested you enough to get you hooked?

I've seen it before in a collectors forum. Repetition I guess.

I never played the original Atari... feel left out by those stories all the time.

The first game I palyed was some shitty DOS game on an old "radio shack" PC my Dad brought home from work when I was maybe 5 years old. It had this rip-off "Donkey Kong" game of just basic ASCII character "sprites"... I played it and found an "Exploit" in it to get the top score, and I was pretty hooked on the idea of gaming after that. Then made friends w/ a neighbor w/ an Atari and just played the shit out of it any time I could.

It's between my dad buying me that Sega Genesis bundle in 1995 with John Madden football packed in (which didn't click too much with me so quickly started looking for other Genesis games and found SF2 Champion Edition, Gaires (awesome shmup everyone should play at least once), Aladdin etc.), and going to an arcade playing some games there.

The arcade, I don't exactly remember what I played, but I distinctly remember a 3D fighter with a polar bear. Would be a long time before I realized it was Tekken 2. In hindsight my gaming habits were probably a bit weird even for that time because I was young & green enough to gaming to where the 2D stuff still really impressed me, but I had some friends with PS1s and also went to arcades a lot during that same period, so there was pretty healthy balance. Not much PC games outside of the edutainment stuff at schools back then, though.

The game that made me a "gamer" is definitely Metroid, I had played games before and I liked them, but Metroid had my young brain spin just to think of all the possibilities that a world made like that opened.

To be fair a lot of games... most early SNES releases including Super Mario World.

I played games before that in PC (Prince of Persia), Ataria (a lot) and NES/Genesis but I just really get into games with SNES... before that I never finished a game or played hours in sequence... the interest was very small.
