As would-be Sony rumored games appear to be debunked semi-reguarly recently, it kinda makes you ask what all the so-called reinvestment and mythical 2nd/3rd teams have even been doing with their time whilst Sony's been all secretive.

We’re all waiting to see at this point.

I don't fucking know, but Bend is the only decent one out of all these pathetic studios.

Housemarque will end up being what Fromsoftware is eventually. Something that appeal to a niche audience of hardcore games with really tight annd good feeling gameplay that will get bigger each game release. All they have to do is keep refining the Returnal gameplay in thte same way that Miyazaki has with souls.

You know, it might actually fit Housemarque better if they did a BLAME!-based game than FromSoft at this point, although you can't go wrong with either. I just would love for a big AAA game based on the BLAME!/Biomega universe is all.

Umm

Every game Housemarque makes has been different than the last…. Nor have they really done sequels. That’s a bit different than from software who mostly just makes the same game over and over again.

I take it you’ve never played a game of theirs before Returnal.

I think it's more like their games will develop an even more cohesive type of style that rewards & focuses on player skill and nuance, with some esoteric systems here and there that otherwise work perfectly for the games they make, than chasing behind industry trends like a lot of other AAA devs do.

It's like how Treasure's games have a certain "blueprint" to them even though they can be in wildly different genres. Gunstar Heroes being a run'n'gun, Alien Soldier a boss rush, Dynamite Headdy a platformer, Sin & Punishment a rail shooter, Radiant Silvergun a shmup and yet there's a definite "Treasure" gameplay and vibe, a fabric, that they all share through some consistency.

I can see Housemarque being more a cross between Treasure and FromSoft maybe leaning a bit towards the former, rather than being a predominant FromSoft-like (though their games should see increasingly better sales with successive releases like FromSoft's releases, something that didn't necessarily happen with Treasure's games sadly).

Definitely don't want to see Housemarque become the next From Software because that means the games they develop will be of no interest to me. And where the hell is my DinoNation??? Give me zombies and aliens but dinosaurs are always forgotten. SMH.

I love Days Gone. My 2019 goty and 5th best game of last gen. Days Gone 2 was my most anticipated sequel for this generation but sadly, that doesn't appear to be happening whatsoever. :(

I can still see a Days Gone 2 happening after Bend's new IP. Although there may be some bit of zombie fatigue kicking in these days, so you never know.

No zombie fatigue with me so I hope you're right. Days Gone 2 was my most anticipated sequel for PS5 so hearing/reading that it wasn't happening was very disappointing.

i don’t see Days Gone 2 happening…for a couple of reasons.

One, The Last of Us. I think Days Gone was greenlit before sony was sure TLOU would be a major hit game. I think having two big zombie games is probably too redundant marketing wise. I also think zombies are starting to get oversaturated in general. At least TLOU is a little different with it implementation of them, which makes them at least look fairly unique.

Two, theres only two ways this will go for Bend, either their new IP knocks it out the park, and they go on to do a sequel, or their new IP is another dud, and who knows what happens to them after that but I bet it won’t be more Days Gone.

Hey, it happens sometimes, that's just the way of the game. Trust me, fans of other platforms have had to deal with a way worst string of cancelled sequels that should've been a sure thing.

Yeah I think if they did a Days Gone 2, they'd need to figure something out new with zombies. Ever seen Land of the Dead? I always liked what they implied with that lead zombie, how they had developed some type of intelligence and learned how to build tools, use weapons and traps on humans, etc. Hinted at an exploration of what zombies could eventually evolve to. I'd of enjoyed if Romero did another Dead film that truly built upon those implications, like what kind of society could pseudo-competent, somewhat more intelligent zombies could look like.

Would they eventually figure out that their main food source is in low supply? Would they learn to evolve into sustaining off of other food sources? Would one of them evolve to be smart enough to eventually develop some type of medicine to test on other zombies so they have actual control over their urges? I think lack of doing something novel with zombies is also why The Walking Dead kind of petered out, the zombies stopped even being a central threat in that show and the teases they had about a cure or whatnot didn't pan out (though arguably the show was never "about" that, but the drama started getting bad too so that definitely didn't help).

Z0mbies and vampires are played out, lets do werwolves or sea creatures, Cthulhu’s.
