Really amazing how far RPCS3 has come in just a few years, I still remember when only Skate would work and people thought it would be impossible to ever get PS3 emulation going.

Why doesn't Sony Hire these guys to work on the PS5?

What is the point of emulating PS5 games if everything is being ported to PC?

I think you're assuming that these people are hirable or even want to be hired.
People need to stop making excuses for Sony, they not only have the resource to hire people like this (or similarly competent) but also make their work much easier.

I know you just mean to correct Hatefields silly comment, but actually there is some value to emulation even of things that have native ports. There's little to no value for the typical gamer, but emulation can to some degree preserve aspects of the original hardware so the games can be played as they originally were, preserving the experience of playing on a PS5. Depending on how it's handle, emulation can even mimic aspects of the system menus, sort of like how Vita3k essentially gives you a Vita menu. Most importantly, emulation serves to help understand how the original hardware worked, which can tell us more about the game development process for PS5 titles and about the internal design and workings of the PS5 itself. Basically, even if there's nothing to gain for the average gamer, it can serve as am educational tool for programmers and engineers.

Also, ports tend to change things or introduce new bugs or remove old bugs and so on, so the experience of a port will always be at last a little different from the original release. Again, not important for most people, but useful for preserving titles as they were

The requirement to play games at PS3 level needs a better CPU than what exists on PS5.

That is the biggest issue by far.

This guy constantly ignores business realities and couches that as "excuses".


Most of these guys are neckbeards that don't work out in corporate settings. They make their own hours. There is a huge difference between being a part time hobbiest and a full time employee. Even hiring people like this as contractors can be difficult, because they're not going to dedicate their time towards your project. They usually already have full time jobs doing other things and just do this for fun.

Also the expectations shift drastically when it comes to hobbyist work vs scalable professional products.

All of which ignores the point that the vast majority of people don't care about emulation. These people ignore that Sony has all the data on people playing classic games. If there was a huge demand for it and a huge profit opportunity, it would be a greater priority than it is.

If you're pleased with this emulator, just use it... problem solved...

These aren't your 9-5ers and they're not the type of people to deliver a product within deadlines and sprints. And that is totally fine, but people shouldn't conflate this to the work they want to see on an official emulator.

It's like the people who think modders are better than developers without comparing priorities or restrictions on time/resources.

You say this but it's not unheard of for modders to segway into actual official development roles. For example, Durante used to be just a prolific modder for pc ports, fixing issues with things like the Dark Souls original release and creating tools to play games at higher resolutions that don't support it. Durante was one day hired by XSeed to port Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 to PC, which he successfully did. Afterwards, he formed his own company dedicated to making ports of games, and to this day his company does regular work on Falcom releases

good emulator, its the only way to play drakengard 3 with good performance since its run at like 10fps on the ps3

I'm not saying people can't transition from being modders to being professionals. It's absolutely a valid gateway into getting into the business. I'm just saying one shouldn't be confused for the other.
