Without the pandemic, this would be the PS5 lineup up until this point.

Switch is a handheld. If you can walk around with it, it's a handheld.
I can connect a keyboard and mouse to my phone and plug it into the TV, it doesn't make it a PC.
Switch is a console. It has seperate controller pieces and connects to a tv without needing to buy add-ons, therefore it is a console.

It's not. I can't carry my PS4 around like a handheld and that connects to a TV.

Though, for the sake of argument, let's say switch is a console. You're now left with a gap from handheld sales, which are between 100 and 130~ per generation. Where have those gamers gone?
Have they gone to mobile?

And you can't use switch as Schroedinger's hardware.

Yep. And the handheld players who didn't want to go mobile have picked up a switch, pulling people away from home console, while others have migrated to PC or stopped gaming.

Sony and Microsoft haven't responded to this by making the consoles a better value proposition or to try and win back the audiences. Instead they're flailing around like an epileptic at a disco.
They'll keep doing this until the console industry crashes, which would have happened if not for COVID buying them 3 years of faux popularity.

If anything, they were forced to make the deal worse due to chip shortage price increases and tech devaluation and miniaturization reaching their limits.

They weren't forced to do anything. The X1 and PS4PRO are still competent consoles. They could have made a PS4Pro with a better CPU and a bit more ram and made it cheap for manufacturing.
They got greedy, making expensive hardware with no hooks or exclusives, aimed it at the wrong crowd, with a contraction of the industry on the horizon that Stevie Wonder could have even seen.

The dock is an add-on. It is bundled with it, but it is an add-on.

Its part of the basic package, you might as well say that everything after the Famicom doesn't work on a tv without add-ons (the controllers.) And technically you'd be right if you take console by its traditional meaning of a desk-sized workstation.

And that is setting aside the fact that's the dock is literally a fancy plug, there's less in it than an Xbox 360 brick, are you going to call those handhelds too?

Im laughing hard asf bc every argument that tries to say its a console or a handheld can totally have its words swapped easily to prove the other point. The beauty of being a hybrid and fitting into both worlds

There are laptop docks out there that work with it. Some of them are sold as "compatible with both the Steam Deck and the Switch". Going to call those "fancy plugs"?

The Xbox 360 brick is a cheap power converter, there is no IO technology in it, contrary to a USB dock, such as the one the Switch is sold with. A replaceable peripheral, just like controllers.

There actually was a TV-out cable for a PSP model. So, is it a hybrid then?

It is a home console, much more so than a handheld. Try holding it in your hand, it feels ridiculous. Can't fit in in a pocket either.
not it is not.

A home video game console is a predesigned piece of electronic hardware that is meant to be placed at a fixed location at one's home, connected to a display like a television screen or computer monitor, and to an external power source, to play video games on using one or more video game controllers.

This differs from a handheld game console which will have a built-in screen, controller buttons/features, and a power supply like a battery or battery pack.
