These things were definitely sent out well in advance and they aren't even sent by the company itself.
Companies work with vendors giving them sizes and the sort as well as addresses, especially if you're a remote employee.
There was no stopping these and the nature of terminations is really tight lipped, so the group that probably handles this stuff in people and talent/learning and development aren't told in advance that people are going to be fired.
The responses here show that people have never worked for big companies.
