With governments coming down hard on energy efficiency, this is where consoles should really be pulling way ahead of PC.

But Xbox really is designed to be a mini PC with all of the inefficiencies too I guess... although scaling games seems to be easier across many SKU's.

But this will be a key battle ground in the future, to make AAA gaming viable.

Yeah, the mode they are bitching about is Instant On LOL. The point of that is to instantly bring you to the dashboard. It's not an energy saving mode and it's not intended to be.

Instant on mode uses 59 now.. it used 132 at launch because energy rates are higher.

Find me where anyone mentioned the actual energy saver mode cost.

edit: In fact the author of these tweets implies it's the exact same as PS5 as he says changing the setting saves you 55.



And energy saver has a bunch of functions turned on too.. it just has a longer startup.

Stand-by draw 29W at launch… MS improved it to 13W… seems like in UK 13W device running for a month generate a 59 libres bill.

Energy saver mode = £4

PS5 just doesn't have the same "modes" really. It has energy saver + you can turn on USB charging.

MS has "instant on" and "energy saver" and the differences just appear to be.. startup time.

You know, regardless of what kind of "mode" this thing is in, it screams "bad decision" to me to essentially have a console that is always on to such a degree. My 85" tv costs an estimated 20 dollars a year to run. Xbox in its "default standby", no matter what you want to call it, shouldn't cost that much. It just shouldn't even be a thing. But I always turned off those features right away on mine anyway.

I don't pay attention to power consumption at all. I do use energy saver mode since day one and whatever it is, it is. Should the power consumption be lower? Absolutely but if it's that much of a concern for people, unplug the damn console and problem solved.
