Fair play to those pushing back. We will have bland shite games with this pushing any creative minds out the door and have soulless voice acting and movement. Anyone legitimately thinking this is great should be immediately drug tested.

Where it’s at.
Considering how well the AI-generated articles on MS news feeds are working out, I would LOVE to see what games they come up with.

There was a bit of a flap earlier in the fall when an MS AI article about tourist attractions in Ottawa, Ontario listed the food bank as a place to go, and suggested you go on an empty stomach.

I actually think LLM based games are the future. They can be used for a lot more than just dialogue and quests. I’m more excited to see what indies do with it than big companies like MS. Inworld and similar companies already have Unity plugins that indies can use now.

Game developers have been dropping the ball for the last decade. Maybe this can free some of their time to focus on quality instead of shopping unoptimized software.

Or they can use that time to continue virtue signalling on Twitter, eating avocado toast or doing coke on the job, you know typical game developer stuff.

The problem isn't AI as technology. The problem is private capitalist ownership of the technology. AI has the potential to raise the bar of game development, allowing smaller teams to take on bigger projects. In reality, large publishers want leverage AI and fire a whole bunch of workers while still churning out the same product. All publishers are compelled by market competition to adopt the technology. The publisher still making 100+ hour open worlds without the assistance of AI will tend to be out-competed by the publishers who adopt it.
It’s nothing new. Automation, efficiency, cost reduction. It matters little what the tool is, the goal of progress doesn’t discriminate.

Xbox was silly to publicly announce this right now…I bet a bunch of other publishers/studios are implementing AI but aren’t letting the world know about it.
They do announce their plans years before anyone else would consider revealing info so it does make sense.
