The more time passes by the more I think the decision to ditch the FFXII battle system and it's world design was a huge mistake.

Remember people complained and we got the shite called FFXIII and FFXV.

I think on one hand turn based games aren’t going to generate the sales that they are looking for in a final fantasy game.

Second, it’s been a series that they have been changing and looking for new gameplay styles since the PS2 era.

They still make them. They know there is a market, but they adjust the budget and scale.

Some of the hot takes I keep seeing on turn-based gameplay are just depressing. Dragon Quest XI managed to have a turn-based system that still worked really well, was a nice update to it. It's not exactly a product of its time either; Ys was an ARPG series that was out at the same time as a lot of turn-based RPGs. It was a design choice and still can be.

Not going to lie, FFXVI being real time action combat makes me much more interested in the game. I prefer the combat system to be like FF7R which is real time but also has turn based in a slowing down time manner which is as far as im going in regards to any type of turn based combat as it's just to slow, boring and time consuming.

I just stopped to play my session today because I started to fall asleep.
That combat is too boring… I’m going ahead due the story.

I have no issue playing for 3-4 hours in sequence but with FFVIIR combat system I’m having a hard time time yo not sleep.

🤷‍♂️

FF7R is the first game in the franchise that I have ever completed and outside of a few hours in FFXV and maybe 30 minutes of the original FF7 back in the day, I have never ever played an FF game. If FF7R was turn based, I would have skipped it but being real time combat with "turn based" being just slowing down time, I was all in and really enjoyed the game. Excellent 9.0/10 for me. I'm looking forward to Rebirth, FFXVI and even Crisis Core. lol.

I like all the characters (with Tifa being my Waifu, lol) and the story was good but the last few hours completely lost me. I may replay the game since I still have the Intermission DLC to play.

Do you prefer turn based then? Funny thing is that while no game has ever made me fall asleep or get me to where I wanted to go to sleep, turn based would just bore me to where I would just quit the game. lol

Oddly enough, I did play 5 turn based games last generation - Child of Light, Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Battle Chasers Nightwar, Mutant Year Zero and Gears Tactics but after Gears Tactics, I just don't have the patience for these games anymore. lol

Hoping Dragon Quest XI goes real time combat!!! Hehehe.

Not a like for turn-based games to say... I just don't have any issue with them but I like to play turn based real life games.
I do like Action based games too.

It is just I don't like combat system that makes me sleep :D

Squeare Enix still needs to find a good action battle system... so yes in that FFVIIR format I prefer turn-based.
Maybe FFXVI will change that because it is supposed to have a action combat and has the DMC guy behind it.

PS. Child of Light is amazing... the others I did not play.

You have to hope that FFXVI is more for you than FF7R is. Definitely sounds like it will be more action oriented if it has the DMC guy behind it. For me personally, all I can say is that as someone who never cared about FF, they won me over with FF7R to where im day one for Rebirth and im very interested in FFXVI and Crisis Core. Before FF7R, my interest was non-existent. lol

The witcher 3: three and a half years.
Development began in 2011 and lasted for three and a half years.

Red dead redemption 2
The game's development lasted over eight years, beginning.

GTA V: approximately three years
Preliminary work on Grand Theft Auto V began around Grand Theft Auto IV's release in April 2008; full development lasted approximately three years.

Personally I don't mind as long as there are open large areas that can emulate the feel of exploration then I'm cool with that.
