English is not my first language so excuse me for any misspells.
After 26 years as a pc gamer I decided to buy a Playstation 5 to see why you all love it so much in this forum. And now I'm one of you:

College Basketball Dancing GIF by UNC Tar Heels

My thoughts so far:

  • There is something really beautiful about a machine that is strictly for gaming, I Found myself playing a lot more and getting less distracted by not opening tabs for Reddit or youtube.

  • The controller is great and shooting is amazing. The only two downsides I see are that the battery life is quite short and aiming is way harder, but that is probably because im used to using a mouse.

  • Playing the same game on pc and playstation feels different, probably due to the fact that now I can play from the couch and not the desk, so I'm not just playing more, I am actually enjoying games more and feeling more relaxed.

Thankfully I was on time to claim the Playstation Plus collection since I'm starting from 0 and I also suscribed to Playstation Plus Extra. Right now I'm playing Miles Morales because I want to be ready for Spiderman 2.

What Sony game that I missed should I play next? I'm thinking about playing The Last of Us (I sadly know the story at this point) or Horizon Zero Dawn (spoiler free)

Is GoW 2018 in that collection? I can’t remember. I would’ve strongly suggested to play that first and then play a few others to give some time before dipping into Ragnarok. And essentially build this ps5 experience around god of war :ROFLMAO:

PS Extra is also a decent value for exploring the rest of the library. For me the best thing of value was ghosts of Tsushima but there are some games on there like Horizon 2 etc.

It’ll be software overload by doing such. Although when you saying you’re playing miles morales I assume it’s the ps plus extra sub? So you have it?

I’ve changed my tune on Death Stranding … so director’s cut is where I spent a lot of my non multiplayer time. I can’t suggest that game for everyone so even while I endorse and plenty of others do… it’s def a kojima game but it alienates mgs fans a tiny bit by playing nothing like it. I think that’s on extra… whatever I bought it.

IconEra right now....

My picks are GOW / GOWR, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Burning Shores (but you have to complete forbidden west first)

If you like racing games GT7 is incredible and will keep you playing for a very long time.

Demons Souls is excellent and don't forget Astrobot is free.

Great job snatching the games on PS+ before they went....that's excellent.

I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it and an SSD expansion is the best investment.

For the controller battery, if you can get a really long cable, it is the best solution or a second controller so one is always charged.

That is literally how I'm feeling. And the fact that they are wearing blue makes it better haha.

Ghost of Tsushima looks sooo good. I think I might play that before The Last of Us. And I love racing games so I was thinking about buying GT7 or Need For Speed Unbound soon (yes, I know. Quite a difference haha)

I bought a second controller so I'm going to use that as a solution. Now I need to get myself one of those H9 headphones 💙

TLoU Part I, Uncharted 4 and God of War are probably the best games to get a feeling for that Sony high quality production standard.

There are plenty of other must play stuff depending on what you feel like playing like Rift Apart, Demon's Souls, Returnal, Spider-man, GT7, Shadow of the Colossus, FFVII Remake, Death Stranding, etc.

Some games just appeal a lot more to me when playing on PlayStation when compared to playing them on PC. There is just something about winding down on bed before sleep and just sneaking in that 1 or 2 hours of a great game.

The opposite is also true some times, I don't like to play first person games or strategy games on console.

Welcome! A protip for the gamepad battery: since you can charge it while playing, and can use basically any standard phone charger where you can plug a USB cable, it's good to have a long enough USB cable to charge it in case you run out of battery in the middle of a gameplay session either connecting it to the console or to a phone charger that you may have closer to your couch.

A good idea is also to get a second pad and always put to charge the gamepads just when they run out of battery. In that case, you'll always have a fully charged pad when you run out of battery of the other one and won't need to use the cable when playing.

Regarding the aiming, you'll get used even if in top eSports level isn't as good as mouse for shooters.

I suggest you to get PS+ Premium: there are hundreds of great games there including many hidden gems you may never heard of them before.

In addition to native emulated PS1, PS2, PSP games and streamed PS3 games, Premium also include a lot of great native PS4 or PS5 games that are remasters, remakes of PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP/Vita titles, or the PS4/PS5 version of crossgen PS3/PSP/Vita/PS4 titles.

It depends of the genres you like. PS has a lot of great games in a wide amount of genres, many of which aren't available in PC.

Outside the obvious ones from ND or SSM (GoW, Uncharted and TLOU are a must), or Gran Turismo if you like cars, they have many gems that weren't super sellers from Japan Studio: stuff like Gravity Rush, Astro or the Team Ico games are great. If you like weird experimental and creative stuff the Media Molecule games are great.

If you like classic hardcore arcade action, the Housemarque titles are awesome. If you Pixar-like mascot 3d platformers, check out the latest Ratchet games, specially the most recent one. If you want an Ubisoft open world with ninjas and samurais but better than the Ubisoft games, get GoT. If you like superheroes, Spider-Man and the latest Infamous are great. If you are ok with open world games, hordes of zombies or bikers stuff like 'Sons of Anarchy', or simply think they make too much woke stuff recently, you'll love Days Gone.

You also have a ton of other games in many other genres, like MLB for baseball or a ton of fighting games. If you like futuristic racing, Wipeout Omega Collection is your game. Or well, if you like classic arcade racing you can even go and play there the PSP Ridge Racer 2 which plays great still today and it's a super fun compilation of most of the series.

There's a ton to choose, depends on your tastes.

If you play TLOU play the PS5 remake, not the remastered from the collection (wait for a sale, it's worth it)

Sackboy, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet, Ghost of Tsushima, Demons Souls, Returnal are all on PS+ so it's pretty much all you need.

Uff, thanks for such a detailed answer. Im surprised how many of those games I don't even know! I'm going to add a couple of those to my list!

Good info, I was going to play the remastered version they gave me with the collection. Thanks!

You're welcome! There are many more, I forget to mention it but if you like the Souls-like games for many people Bloodborne is the best one, and Demon's Souls is the one that started all this Souls thing, and got awesome visuals in its PS5 remake.

I'm also a big fan of the Gravity Rush games: very charming anime-like action open world where you fly by changing the gravity. Like many classic Sony exclusives has a great and unique art style, soundtrack and gameplay mechanics. Both are GR titles are true hidden underrated gems that sadly like some other great Japan Studio games wasn't a big seller.
