Generally if someone has a 3rd party exclusivity for a game there is some kind of partnership
But Sony never paid sega to keep that exclusivity, so someone else paid them to put it on their platform.

That's not really Sony losing a partnership.

What’s the point of building up this huge install base if you’re just gonna lose partners and relationships one by one? Like what’s the long-term strategy here if you’re unwilling to invest in your key partners that made you what you are then what’s the point?
Exactly.
Lost Japan studio team directors like Ueda, Toyama. Sega exclusives gone. FromSoft no signs. Supermassive and Quantic Dreams. All had games for PS exclusively.
I have no complaints about FF16 and Rise of the Ronin being exclusive, but the what about the others…

You could be right about the partnership. I dont know if every partnership has to have an official deal made public or maybe it did at some point?

But they are still losing 2 PS centric exclusive series. One that has been exclusive to PS since PS1 (Persona) and the other since PS2 (Yakuza). Its not a Final Fantasy situation. They started on PS exclusively, there fanbase is all PS owners for over 2 decades until recently

Sony needs to buy big shares in these Japanese publishers, so they dont lose them in the future.
Supposedly they cant afford to buy anyone or not want to, whichever it is, they need to protect there own business and keep these Ips secure.
They could afford to overpay for bungie they just don't want to make any purchases that would benefit playstation players it seems 🤣

And understandably sony won't be fighting to pay for yakuza exclusivity as it is mostly a meh franchise that doesn't sell well and will have close to zeroe impact on them, sega will releason on sony regardless complete waste of money to get some exclusivity for that..

And they won't waste money on keeping persona 5 exclusivity as they had they exclusive for a long time, why would they continue paying that exlclusive when the real impact is paying for persona 6 exclusivity?

I think they were in risk of losing Bungie to MS thats why they had to.
And MS wanted to buy them outright, PS couldnt afford that so Im guessing they offered them a bunch of money to stay semi independent etc
This is the future with big tech like MS buying everything when they cant even make run there own studios properly

I can even understand Bungie to help and spearhead the with the GaaS initiative. But I can't understand spending millions on studios that with no IPs, that will only make online games, while completely ignoring their partnerships and relationships they've build over decades of being in the industry.

I own a Series X. I can play all these games. But Sony's focus on bs pisses me off and they have no one but themselves to blame for the IPs they lost.

We’ll have to wait to see what happens with Persona 6. Yakuza like a Dragon was a pretty popular

Still whatever anyone thinks of Yakuza or Persona, or the smaller niche titles, PS had a small percentage of fans loving those games. Now Yakuza is more popular than ever, alot of games are blowing up in popularity compared to what they use to be. GOW, Horizon, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima etc.

They weren't at risk of losing them to Microsoft, the only reason they let Sony purchase them was because they allowed them to stay basically independent something Microsoft was not willing to do ps players get sweet FA from the bungie acquisition except live service online only games that would've been on the platform regardless meanwhile Microsoft is buying up publishers with tonnes of IPs that they can take away from playstation at any point

Well those fans can still love them. They haven't gone anywhere.
