Enthusiasm for the PS5 Pro seems to be non-existent amongst most video game developers, with most claiming there is no need for it

Devs are hypocrites, if a Pro is not needed then why the heck games aren't performing like they should

Because some are rushing games out the door to meet deadlines and they still aren't wholly experienced in the hardware. Thts why before a pro was a thing games at the end of hardware life cycle would look exponentially better than games tht released in the beginning.

I believe Sony is releasing a Pro so that late gen games can look better. The 1st party launch games look so good I don't believe games can look any better without Pro hardware. This is what people who think there shouldn't be a Pro don't understand.

Maybe because they are spending time porting games to two different SKU's that don't sell, when they could be focusing on the platforms that make them money.

PS5 games run on PS5 Pro by default, they dont have to do anything...

Just like they don't for every PC hardware configuration
So a game that run like PS5 game on the PS5 Pro.
Genius.
You can use as argument that PS4 games run on PS5 by default too 🤷‍♂️ but that is not exactly what devs are talking about having to work in a PS5 Pro profile.

BTW why did you want to buy a PS5 Pro to run games like it run on PS5?

PS. I don't know but these comments are so obtuse that add nothing to the discussion at all.

I think that's an excuse for poor management. Mark Cerny said the hardware was easier to use than the ps4 and most of it is carried over, this isn't like the ps4 coming from the ps3. There is 0 reason ps5 games should be coming out looking and running like dogshit

Lets see how gta6 perform on ps5 vs ps5pro and then we can judge is it really worth the upgrade

No the PS5 and PS5 Pro are the same and use the same API.

That was not the case for PS4 and PS5, different APIs and build

The PS5 Pro will stabilize games that struggle to maintain their target framerates by default.

I do not know what you are struggling to understand here

Rise of the Ronin for example will be closer to maintaining 60fps on PS5 Pro just do to being more powerful

And it can use the AI upscaling tim greatly improve the image quality without any work by the devs

Its all handled by the system/hardware

My comments are all in the thread explaining my stance, quit acting obtuse.
Dude chill, I'm just joking around.
and I do understand what you're saying but I really dont agree with it at all. Yes at the end of the day it is just a stronger machine with some extra cool stuff like haptic feedback and 3D sound, and the fact that a lot of exclusives are coming to PC only helps to drive the point further home.
but it IS a very disingenuous point, because at the end of the day you could say the same for the jump between ps1 and ps2.
A new gen of console is at the end of the day, just another stronger machine to play the stuff you have. Why is that a bad thing? I think you might be missrembering how bad the ps4 was and how it fixed so much stuff.
Super Loud
Huge load times,
The vast majority of games stuck at 30fps.
Slower internet connection.

You might think thats not a lot but when you compare both consoles, ps5 does pretty much everything a lot better (appart from not having themes sony my boy what are you doing???)

I'm also not saying that the ps5 pro will be all that but to say that the ps5 is just a stronger ps4 is supper inacurate.

Did you read what I wrote?

I'm asking him why he is buying a PS5 Pro if he only wants all PS5 games to run by default on PS5 Pro?
Why buy the PS5 Pro if you don't want games to take advantage of it (the extra development costs to make the game uses the PS5 Pro)?

It was rhetoric and sarcastic question.

The AI upscalling needs to be coded to the game use it in PS5 Pro like DLSS needs to be coded to the game uses it.
That is exactly what you guys are in denial.

Like you have to code a new profile to use the PS5 power on PS4 games... you need to patch the game.

To release a game with support for PS5 and PS5 Pro you will need to code, otimize and tests different profiles.... in your own example the PS5 Pro profile will use the AI upscaling coded in the game while the PS5 profile not.
That is the same for now many different hardware and profiles you have.

That is extra working costs for each one of them.
The examples you guys give add extra working costs to developers that exactly shows what I'm explaining here.

Actually if you look to the exactly Cerny words it were...

PS5 design is easy for PlayStation 4 developers to get to grips with, but digging deeper into the new system's capabilities, there are many aspects of the PS5 design that PCs will be hard-pressed to match.

Like easy to use and hard to master.
PS5 is hard to get to it full potential than PS4 because there way more to it.

Developers are still getting the grip of PS5 development.

How am I to tell you're joking? Sorry hard to tell on this site sometimes especially given you're initial response.

And I am not knocking the PS5 hardware..if you read my original comment, I said I don't think Sony has done a good job in Justifying the Pro because they really haven't released much PS5 only games? Most have been cross gen and seeing that's been the case it just feels like PS5 has just been playing PS4 games better.

Obviously my opinion on the pro won't matter, it will happen lol. I just don't think they've done a good job flexing their machine compared to last gen between. 2013 - 2016.

4 years into the generation and we still haven't gotten a single next gen only game from a top studio outside of Insomniac... But you're already prepping a new hardware. It's a slap in the face in my opinion, but hey?

You can blame the shitty gaas initiative and not the ps5/pro though?

They run in a backward compatibility state i.e. half the CU's are disabled and nothing on the code is altered so the game will run to the parameters and limits which were designated to it via the original PlayStation 5.

The games work ofc, but they have to be ported to make use of the additional compute, they have to be ported and optimized around the new hardware, they have to have the settings manually applied via additional coding in order to operate with a greater graphical and performance output.

This whole thread is dumb tbqh

The same people who "don't see a point" in a ps5 pro are the same people who are gaga over the power of a 4090

A 4090 is 45% faster than the 4070Ti Super. Absolutely no one would tell you you have a good point if you told a PC person that anything above a 4070 Ti Super is pointless.

45% is the same margin in raw raster that a PS5 Pro is over the base PS5. And the PS5 Pro has a DLSS-competitor AI upscaling that the PS5 doesn't. And an improvement in raytracing like going from turing to lovelace.

People are just salty af that the PS5 Pro will be a legit answer to budget pc gaming.

Well the beauty of a 4090 is it has far more application than just gaming, and in terms of gaming it has far more application than a fixed system.

It's actually 60% faster but that is neither here nor there. Outside of the strict gaming community and people I'm familiar with there many of the people I know including myself use the card for 3D engine work and 3D rendering.

The application there is massive, and for the fraction of the cost of an Nvidia workstation GPU you get many of the benefits.

Nobody is salty about anything which is a weird take to have in the first place. The most successful game PlayStation has probably ever had that being Helldivers 2 is being played on 1050 TI's right now.

Aside from the obvious it's not much of a flex rattling on about a potential nine month away release of a console that will be computationally dated 4 years at its point of release.

Even where we sit right now with what is available at the time of this post the PS5 Pro would be middle of the road, not at all accounting for what's going to be released at the end of this year.
