This time last gen Sega had a bunch of previous exclusive games for Playstation and new games annouced exclusive to PS4.
Persona 5, Yakuza 6, Judgement, Yakuza Kiwami 1&2, Disgaea 5, Yakuza Zero, Valkyrie Chronicles to name some.

So whats happened with this relationship?
Last night Team Ninja showed it is still making exclusives for Playstation with there new game Ronin. But Sega revealed all there games as multiplatform.

Persona, Yakuza, Disgaea and Valkyrie Chronicles series were mostly exclusive to Playstation Platform.
By the end of the PS4 generation it all changed.

-Disgaea 6 timed exclusive to Switch
-Yakuza 7, like a Dragon. Timed Exclusive to Xbox ( didn’t release on PS5 for a bit )
-All Persona and Yakuza games come to other platforms. (These are mostly known as Playstation centric titles for the last 2 decades )
-Judgement going to Xbox/PC
-SMT 5 Switch Exclusive

Until Ronin was announced by Team Ninja, I was thinking Playstation had lost alot of these 3rd party exclusives compared to previous gens.
Last gen PS4 got the likes of:

Street fighter 5 - Capcom
Bloodborne - FromSoft + Japan Studios
Persona 5/Yakuza’s - Sega/Atlus
Nioh 1&2 - Team Ninja
Detroit - Quantic Dreams
Until Dawn - Supermassive

So whats happened here?
Did Playstation and Jim decide not to pay up for Yakuza? Do Sega now has a stronger relationship with MS and Nintendo? Or is there an exclusive game from Sega/Atlus in the pipeline For Playstation?

PS - Someone at Sega make a bloody Jet Set Radio game🤪

I think they just switched to Square Enix instead.

I think Sega is just not willing to do any exclusivity anymore or they're asking for a lot of money for exclusivity that Sony isnt willing to cough up. But if i had to bet its just Sega wanting to put everything everywhere coz i doubt yakuza sold much at all on xbox. We will have to see if Persona 6 is exclusive or not to see if Sony hasnt tried paying for exclusivity for any of their games. If its exclusive then i believe that Sony probably tried to pay to keep Yakuza exclusive but Sega maybe just didnt want to accept the money

Japanese games are becoming more popular on pc and the switch is massively successful, so it makes sense to release it on there. When it comes to Xbox, I imagine Microsoft threw some money at them to make it worth their while since the sales wouldn't be.

Imo no loss that Sega going Multi-platform. If Sony ends up buying Square Enix I will be more than satisfied. Square Enix is real goat under the Japanese publishers.

They're already infiltrated in their executive board.

Yeah this is the reason I think the partnership has changed. MS buying or controling Sega is pretty impactful.

Persona, Yakuza, Disgaa have been great exclusives. Its a shame to lose them. They’ve been a part of Playstation since PS1 days. It would be an ever bigger issue if these games don’t come to PS

Sega is dead

Thats like saying Square is dead.

Persona is great, Yakuza is more popular than ever. Same with Total War. Beyonetta 3 is coming. Sonic IP is more popular with kids now than it has been in decades

Sega's upper management has had unrealistic expectations for games for a while now, and now that they've seen an opportunity to make money on all platforms, I don't see them doing any exclusivity anymore if they can avoid it, barring deals already in place. Especially if MS shows signs of being willing to throw money at them just to be able to say they're on the platform (or rather, in Game Pass). Guaranteed money that more than covers the cost of porting would make any sales after that gravy.

This is business, fam. They'll do whatever makes them the most money. I dunno why people keep trying to look at business relationships like they were some sort of friendship.

I get that.
Im just hoping Playstation has thrown some money at them for the next Persona or that Medi/FantasyJRPG that was rumoured by the same team.
Just like they are getting FF16-7 from Square and Ronin from Team Ninja. Hopefully they have a few more of these 3rd party exclusives. Like with Miyazaki

Pretty sure the most Sega might hand anyone these days is timed exclusivity and marketing rights.

only valuable series sega have is Yakuza and Persona

Yeah but Id say they have some decent IPs even if they arent as popular like SMT, Disgaea. And Atlus might be making a new JRPG IP. They are some of the more consistent Japanese studios when it comes to quality
