The point is: Microsoft used and listed every acquisition Sony has made. They even complained about Sony buying last year that 10 people mobile gaming studio!
I think that Sony probably has come to an understanding that ABK will be regardless approved. So it’s futile to resist any further and it’s time to continue their business activities. With announcing this today I think Sony will now announce a lot of acquisitions including Square Enix.
Next week is a quarterly report, they usually have some announcements during those weeks. I wonder if to offset f the cma approving sony has a larger acquisition lined up to blunt the bad news?

good move, i would have thought Deviation would be first. They’re the last of the partnered studios no acquired.
Sony is also publishing games from Kojima Productions, Ballistic Moon (ex-Supermassive), Team Ninja or Shift Up, to name some of them.

I think this Firewalk acquisition is their pre-fiscal report gaming related acquisition news. They may have budget to make some other smaller scale acquisition during this fiscal year, but unless they increase the related budget they won't have enough money there for a big publisher acquisition.

So I think it isn't because of regulators, I think Sony simply doesn't plan to react to the Zenimax and ABK acquisitions. At least not yet.

I think you guys are well thinking too much.

Sony needs to make public any aquisition... it just happened that the deal was closed so they are required announced it in XX time (I don't know how much time you have to do that).
I don't believe Sony is holding aquisitions due the AB & MS deal... it just business talk for aquisitions takes several months or even years.

But they are already working in new AAA multiplayer first person shooter to Sony.

And what is the issue with ex-ND working in a Perfect Dark a la Tomb Raider? It is basically their expertise.

There's a difference between how Microsoft manages talent and how Sony manages talent.

Also, any major response to the ABK deal from Sony won't happen immediately, as big buyouts take months and even years.

The difference is im assuming is that sony at least has a tangible product they’ve seen from these studios.

Comparing how SIE operates and runs its studios to Microsoft is futile

If they're sticking to just developers, Arc System Works or Vanillaware would be great picks, if not both. But if we're talking publishers, well, that potential opens up a lot more.



I get the feeling Sony are going for a balanced approach, so I wouldn't be surprised if more known devs and a big publisher or two are in the pipeline.

Honestly, if I were in charge of their M&A strategy, I'd do the following:

[M&A - Developers]

-Arc System Works (in-house fighting game talent)​
-Vanillaware (high-quality 2D action-adventure RPG content, great fit for certain legacy PS IP)​
-Deviation Games​
-Ember Lab​
-Shift Up (Stellar Blade dev)​

[M&A - Publishers]

-Capcom (lots of valuable IP, in-house fighting game talent, big MMO asset in Monster Hunter, etc.)​
-Square Enix (Final Fantasy, lots of valuable IP that could due with new installments like Einhander, Parasite Eve, etc.)​

[Investments (Financial & Share Purchases)]

-Kadokawa/From Software​
-EA​
-Take Two​
-Ubisoft​
-CDPR​
-Bandai Namco​
-Koei Tecmo​
-Devolver Digital​
-Sega Atlus​
-Konami​
-Epic​
-Pearl Abyss​

Some of these companies they would obviously want to invest in more/buy more shares in than others, if the shares are available to buy. Take Two, for example, would be a higher-priority investment target than Sega-Atlus, especially if Sony acquired Capcom and/or Square-Enix. The point of the investments and share purchases is so that Sony has key investments in key 3P partners, to have some say in case competitors try to purchase these companies, among other things.
Capcom need to be secured. The least they should do is invest in it to prevent Microsoft acquisition.
Honesty, this recent RE4 remake was incredible in both design and technology. Capcom is back to their former late 90s - early 2000s glory.

This was always happening. Probably monsters. Are like studio builders. Cause they are pretty much recruitment team in disguise. Deviation next up. Everyone is hyped on Deviation as they should be. But firewall got the sleeper. Fps in my guesstimate.

You know Capcom needs to be willing to sell. Microsoft can’t force a company to sell them. This would be otherwise a hostile takeover. No one is going to acquire Capcom.

Looks like the ABK deal is all but confirmed now.

Sony have now decided to announce all the studios they have acquired during this period which they kept under wraps.

Won’t be surprised if theres a flurry of announcements.

If Firewalk has been acquired then surely Deviation games has also been acquired.

Let’s hope Ember Lab is also announced.

Investing in a GAAS arm of the company while not pushing their bread and butter single player developers into it.

Big difference from the likes of WB for example getting massive backlash from gamers because the devs we know for their premium SP experience are producing GAAS

well, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, and Insomniac are all making live multiplayer games. Sucker Punch are probably as well by building on what they made with Ghost Legends into a full standalone game

obviously they're all still making singleplayer games too so its fine, but they are doing both

Fantastic, Sony just needs to carry on buying talented developers who they have/are working with, no need to drop billions on publishers.

Deviation surely next to go along with Ballistic Moon. Who knows, maybe Bloober will get the call too.
