Finally managed to get this thing. I’m well happy with. Comfort and design is the best handheld I ever hold. The negatives is the obvious connection issues. So forget playing gran turismo or any competitive mp shooter.
I download the new free to play pes and was having too much fun last night.
I also tested roaming connection at work and worked pretty well now. I’m going to Portugal on 15th it will be another test

So overall 10/10 ergonomics, build quality and comfort.

Connection 6/10

Very happy with my purchase
Overall paid £137 with company discount

Apart from not being a non multiuser device (head scratcher), the added latency is the only real issue. It’s small, and nowhere nothing like a tv out of game mode….but it’s there and just a touch too much for high reaction multi. Everything else is great, including a perfect iq, supersampled down to 1080p 7”.

I’m really baffled by preferring a dedicated unit. Having a 100% ps5 experience in your hand is light years ahead of a mobile chip. Around the house, it’s the optimal handheld solution available. If out of the house is a prime use case can I see a steamdeck or switch like device being better.

Meh I play COD on it, actually I use to use remote play on my laptop before I got a portal and would place top 3. Lag is noticeable in mp but not game breaking for me.

Totally hoping ps5 pro has faster encoding hardware reducing latency even further.

What I noticed though and it shouldn't be like this is depending on the isp provider depends on whether I have connection/ issues, it's not even about the bandwidth because it was the same. Idk it's like some isp set up a block some of this

I just need to direct connect to PS5 and bypass ass WiFi/data hiccups when around the house. That's gotta be better, right?

And native downloadability/playing of games. I'm perfectly fine re-syncing my game data into the PS cloud once I'm back "home" again, I just want to be able to play something and it not be a controller shaped brick if WiFi/data signals are shit.

Wifi latency within a premises is practically negligible < 1ms, but gives wide coverage in the household. Tethering to the console wouldn’t likely give noticeable benefit while reducing range.

The majority of the latency is in production of the video stream I would wager, fix that and the rest becomes more than adequate.

To have ps5 games takeaway and not streamed would require a different piece of software to target a different sku, after which the take away game would not be as technically accomplished as the console version. Lower framerates, reduced gfx etc.. Do devs want to bother?

While you can’t guarantee connection conditions outside the home, I’d say majority are adequate. Shaving off some of the pipeline latency would make out of home play very satisfying.

Update: so I’m in Lisbon right now. Using this thing has being a blast. I’m playing persona 5 never played before it’s just the perfect game for this thing. Even with connections issues the turn based aspect to it makes easier to digest. Having said that. I’m playing for 3h got disconnected 2 cause the internet went downs. Couple of slow downs. But for the past 2 hours have been smooth sailing. The lag didn’t increase even from here. In fact this is the best experience I had with this thing since I got it. Really happy with it. I guess I’m getting baldurs gate next. Really happy with this purchase. I just don’t recommend competitive games. Again you might have a better experience than me depending on your internet infrastructure. At the end of the day. It’s Amazing to be able to play ps5 looking games on this thing.
Just wish the internet infrastructure was a little better.

Glad you enjoy it. I play it away from here regularly.
