Imagine seeing these numbers last gen. Xbox used to sell respectably now they've fall off a cliff.

If they really did less than a million then that is abysmal. How is that even possible.

At this point, what I don't get is how they saw this happening and still pushed forward with the ABK acquisition.

Hey look at this downward spiral of a business that we have. Let's just throw SEVENTY BILLION DOLLARS at it.

Are Microsoft's execs idiots? What did they think was going to happen?

Releasing games on other platforms removes any reason to own your console.
Its been falling well before that. It had a 30% hardware drop in 22 and 31% hardware drop in 23 when Playstation finally were getting more units made, and now seeing 30% more drop this year. The multiplatform does further hurt it but the numbers were substantially dropping since the 2nd full market year

They started to release games on another platform during the previous gen already...

A glimpse at PlayStation futures if it keeps following the Xbox lead.

I have no idea how satya even allows the xbox execs to greenlight another generation.
Nadella fell for the 2 billion gamers and Netflix of games pitch. Now it's hard for him to admit the mistakes without also getting part of the blame, they spent over $100B on Phil Spencer's nonsensical strategy.

What’s wild is that Xbox sold 60m last gen. That’s a very respectable amount of consoles…. If they were selling in line with XB1 I’d say they’d be running a pretty successful hardware business.

From the Netflix of games to the American Embrace. :ROFLMAO:

Momentum from one generation transfers to another.
The Xbox One actually did rather well early on despite everything.
Gamepass makes it easy for people to move on from one platform to another since they don't build a library of their own.
Their game output has been lackluster for way over 10 years.
The Series S was a short term play that made things even harder for them.

Xbox Series sold less last quarter than the worst quarter of Dreamcast sales prior to that system's discontinuation.*

*=not launch-aligned, and averaged out for Dreamcast. I.e 9.14 million/26 months = ~350K per month = ~ 1.054 million per quarter (3 months).

For comparison, averaged out PS5's sales pace would be ~ 4.33 million per quarter (3 months), and Xbox Series' would ~ 1.9 million per quarter (3 months)

Difference of ~ 2.27:1 in favor of PS5 globally launch-aligned compared to XBS
