Cultural appropriation, revision of history or just appreciation of the culture. What are your thoughts on Yasuke in the new Assassin's Creed.

Its cringe. I just want my game in Japan to be all Japan. We're going to Japan because we want to be there, right? It doesn't feel like it, it feels like you're in the west circa 2020 A.D.

Nah thts reaching and no evidence towards tht. It's like Vikings show having tons of female warriors and all these shield maidens lol because in one archeological escavation thy found one body who they couldn't even accurately tell whether they were male or female with a little sword and a shield buried with other warriors. Mind you they also stated that the body didn't have any bone damage, scarring, etc which would back up tht it was a warrior.

There is absolutely no evidence written or in person of him being bestowed samurai.
Bro, there's plenty of evidence in support of it. lmao I even linked an entire presentation in here from a Prof at Nihon University going over all of it.

Imagine having problems with yosuke having he’s own game
Dude is straight up badass.

The design is cool (the AC version is also very nice) but that's a cartoon. The real Yasuke probably never fought at all. There's barely any info and lots of contradictions.

Ive seen what ppl call evidence there is nothing tht concretely says this dude was a samurai if there was this wouldn't even be up for debate. Shit is conjecture.

Furthermore Samurais were generally born into samurai and hereditary although not all and they were recorded as such. It is actually slim to no chance he was actually a samurai. And after 1600 it was all born in, hereditary to be a samurai. But he was 1n 1500s so still slight possibility but slight.

There are no written recordings or anything saying Yasuke was Samurai which I'm itself says alot because being he wasn't Japanese would be a big thing and definitely recorded. Let's make it make sense.

To be samurai is to embody a certain spirit, which is why you often seen modern Japanese practitioners associate the American cowboy with Samurai.

It’s simply a warrior spirit, which is represented in plenty of cultures outside of Japan.

Does this really matter? Like I watched 300 and it’s based on a true story but come on lol
The point is. He looks cool and he’s actually interesting character even in the fictional stories he has been

You, uhhhh, you don't get how this "fiction" thing works, right?

😭

Edit: I’m just gonna say this. This game seems to be a victim of the times we live in. I’m 100% sure if we had anything like this back in the 90s anyone would be excited about the idea (regardless it’s an Ubisoft game my concerns will probably be something else)

In the 90s when no one knew what Assassin's Creed was? Sure.
But in 2007 when people started asking for an Assassin's Creed with ninjas this would have been an equal shit-storm.

However, had them decided to go to Japan before 2020 I bet they wouldn't even have considered using a black protagonist. This is DEI infection through and through.

so from this point onwards every character of colour will be met with this criticism. So what’s your suggestion? No more poc?

Ppl were mad at Bridgerton and Little Mermaid. They'll be OK. They just need to highlight with their messaging tht it is not based on historical accuracy. I mean Yasuke was a person and black and real most ppl are just reacting to the sensationalism and revision of who he was. .

this online culture is so poisoned by the “woke” argument that they are losing the focus of what games is about

The point is there is no advantage for choosing yasuke as an MC, they will lose more sales than whatever they thought they will gain with this move, the game is already dead on PC with no steam release.
They won’t lose any sales over this. The same crying morons on twitter that say they’ll boycott this actually won’t, just like the morons at era didn’t boycott stellar blade, hogwarts legacy or cyberpunk. This is all forum and twitter clout. Nobody cares.

No, it's an actual caste. What you're thinking of is a romantic idea of a samurai. Just like the European knight. In truth, the samurai were no different than any other warrior throughout history in that they'd lie, cheat, steal and murder.

What makes them different is a fanatical devotion to their feudal lord. And here's the catch. While there was a code of honor, what that honor meant varied.

For example, it was forbidden for a samurai to steal. That would be a disgrace. But if that same samurai was ordered by his lord to do the same, then it's an honorable act.

There are a lot of romantic idea surrounding samurai. The truth is far more sobering. Entire armies switching sides during battle, etc.

It would be fine if he was a character, if anything it makes a lot of sense for him to be present as it fits with AC lore and he stands out in the crowd. (I have zero faith in Ubi's team to actually know Meiji era officials outside of the context of making this game so good luck really resonating with Japanese players.) But having him be the player character in a series that always uses made up ones? That is absolutely current year bullshit. They wanted you to play as a black guy, don't care that the setting 100 percent precludes that and have moved heaven and earth to make it so. It is what it is.

You have rise of ronin, ghost of Tsushima, like a dragon isshin… you can play that.
Also, nioh protagonist is white, not Japanese.
Point is, you have plenty of options, this one is different… don’t play the game, use a mod on pc, or whatever…
Devs are as free to make a jelly boobied girl as they are to make a black samurai 🤷‍♂️
