A nice product for people who travel a lot or have great Internet at home. Reminds me of PSTV only better, and not discontinued after a year.
except the PSTV can natively play a lot of PSP games, all PS1 classics, and a lot of PS Vita games with streaming from PS4 and PS Now as a secondary option. Also the PSTV was supported for more than a year as I was able to buy mine in 2016, two years after it released!

until microsoft or whoever can manage to make game streaming work in regions with horrible internet connection and strict data caps i don’t see it happening anytime soon.

The world has to rapidly change the way it shares data for it to happen. Theres bigger players involved with all of that.

I’m in New York and there are parts of the city where the internet service suck and you don’t have great options. I can only imagine when places in middle america or the deep south eventually catch up.

Except that the pstv actually had a games library (discless only, but no visionary credit for Sony).

This is a streaming stick, it's basically useless. Stadia again.

Rumored spec wise for $100 with a controller is really good if this streaming only console ends up being accurate. Very smart price wise too. Cheap streaming only console for $100, digital only console for $300 and the complete console for $500.

MS being visionaries again with their grand plan to take over the world.

Microsoft simply sees beyond a plastic box that dies in 6 years or so. It's all about the platform and eco-system. Having as many options including very cheap ones is how you get more consumers nto your eco-system. What would you rather have? 80m consoles sold or 60m consoles sold but another 40m in your eco-system via PC, Cloud or whatever? Personally, im going with the 100m total because it's worth much more in the short and long term.

This is some massive spin. You definitely fit in with MS and their fanbase.

Another product that’s cheaper and will supposedly save Xbox. The same talking points over and over and over and over and over.........

I simply see beyond a plastic box. If I was running a company that had a gaming platform, why would I just stay with one option when there's several options available? It's not 1995 anymore or even 2013 anymore. Tech advances. Times change. So many people are against Microsoft's direction and it's like, why? Because they don't want to limit themselves to just a console box?

Consoles barely make a profit and are simply just a means to getting people into the respective eco-system. If you can get millions of more consumers into your eco-system via other means, why wouldn't you?

Fans of Xbox and/or PlayStation should be in favor of their respective eco-systems being available to more consumers because it benefits the company they prefer which in turn will benefit the platform they prefer which in turn will benefit themselves as they'll get more games and content. Also, if games are on PC day one or can be played via Cloud or whatever, how does that affect anyone who's playing on the Series X/S or PlayStation 5 consoles? It doesn't.

Fans should want their favorites to expand and get bigger because it will benefit them in the long term.

Let me guess, next year.

Nope. My prediction is before the current generation ends which would be November 2028 as I do believe this generation goes eight years. Six year average plus two years due to Covid.

Consoles are still the main way to get into the eco-system but the other options aren't for now, they're for the future but none of the other options can ever reach console levels if they don't invest into it and make those other options available to begin with.

In order for streaming/cloud or PC or a TV app to become successful, Microsoft has to start investing into it all now which they are because you can't ever expect anything to grow if you don't do any of it to begin with. Look at Sony. Took them years to finally release their games on PC because they finally realized that they can grow their IP's and their eco-system beyond the console itself which is what it's all about in 2022 and beyond.

In my mind, it makes zero sense to just offer one single option when you can offer five or so different options especially when there are consumers out there who don't give two shits about console gaming but if an App is on their TV and Game Pass for example is a button press or two away, they may be tempted to try it out. Can't get new and/or returning consumers into your eco-system if you're limiting and restricting them to just a single option.

There's nothing wrong with giving consumers as many options as possible to get into your eco-system. Best part is that it's all optional. I'm a console only gamer and will most likely stay that way but im not going to get mad or upset because Microsoft (or Sony for that matter) decides to also allow their games to be played via other means especially when it's not affecting me at all. I'm still playing my games on Series X regardless of where or how other people play their games.

I just don't see what the issue is especially when if you don't like it or prefer it, you can simply ignore it.

Yeah, streaming only devices are notoriously known for being great while travelling :ROFLMAO:

Why wouldn’t they be? Places I stay typically have good internet, and my phones hotspot functionality was more than good enough for me to use xCloud before.

Oh that’s cool, I didn’t know it could natively play some games. Also it was discontinued after a year. The fact that you were able to buy one two years after release just shows it didn’t sell very well and whatever retailer you used still had stock.

You drank the cool aid. MS still does the same things Sony did over 10 years ago (digital only console, streaming, etc).

There is no short term benefits, their eco-system is starved for exclusive games, their rental service is no better than the competition (I don't care for either)... All MS really have is a social media presence and a bunch of non-gamers shill (obviously, they have nothing to play but CoD and other generic games you can get anywhere).

Companies should not make decisions with those customers in mind because they aren't their core customers. If a customer is willing to engage, he would have bought a console already. There are core customers that should get the undivided attention of both companies. People keep saying "this doesn't affect me" but Nintendo did really saved the gaming market many, many years ago because a lot of people said "it is crap but it doesn't affect me".

Consoles are still the main way to get into the eco-system but the other options aren't for now, they're for the future but none of the other options can ever reach console levels if they don't invest into it and make those other options available to begin with.

Could be the future, yeah, in that case the future is really crappy. Local computing is the best way forward, so it really is against the core gamer. The guy who just wants to just play a beyond stupid racing game that is on rails, looking at ashpalt, while waiting for the bus, yeah, he would list the pros of cloud computing.

But the funniest thing of all, is that i hear from the same type of gamer saying "streaming/cloud is the future". In the future we will have connections ranging from 1GBit to 10Gbit (each and every one)? Meanwhile the same people argue that the green console has the better looking experience than the blue one cause it's HDMI has 48GBit instead of 45GBit. That for me is beyond hilarious. It is a mixture of hypocrisy and ignorance that makes perfect examples for a stand up tech comedy, if it ever existed.

Places you stay are not reflective of places everybody stays. Good for you that MS pays you for decent hotels.

Sorry you are stuck with doodoo Internet. Stop staying at Motel 6.
