Yep, there's a long stretch where I only played on PC, then bought a PS2 at the tale end of that gen for a couple games (God of War I and II, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, etc.)
Then, in 2013, the PS4 was announced, but I knew it wasn't going to be backwards compatible, and I didn't want to skip all those great PS3 games, so I bought a used PS3 and subscribed to PS+. During the whole PS4 gen, I played on PS3, and got great deals on used games. I've collected quite a collection.
When the PS5 was announced, and full backwards compatibility was confirmed, I knew I wanted it day one. Got lucky and nagged one in November 2020. I now got a huge backlog of games from PS+, and am subscribed to PS+ Extra.
Nintendo games look fun, but I'm not really interested in buying more than one console, and the whole 'portability' doesn't sway me. I only game at home on a big screen.
Nothing on Xbox ever seemed compelling to me.
