Apple complies with EU ruling and opens up for third-parties within their App Store...

... but there's a catch: they have also introduced Unity style runtime fees. These fees affect any title (including free games or apps), irrespective of whether they are at all monetized.

Essentially killing Free, there will always be a marginal cost passed onto the consumer

Reading the article Apple will take the fee even if the download is from a different storefront? How is that legal? Other than that aspect this seems fair to me. Their store, their rules.

I see two possible outcomes for this:
1 - it blows in Apple's face and they end up losing more because f2p becomes too much of a risk when you charge per DL and it pushes people to free stores.... So they end up having to revert the policy

2 - it doesn't blow in their face and the rest of the world end up with the fees on downloads without access to third party stores.

And they will maliciously get fucked with fines.

Not an issue for a near-$3 trillion megacorp. In fact the EU regulators LOVE collecting these fines since they line their pockets.

It's a big reason they let otherwise market-disrupting M&As to go through....kinda like one that just inadvertently resulted in almost 2,000 people losing their jobs at another $3 trillion megacorp based in Redmond, WA 🤔...

Stop with the xenophobic comments. This site is owned and maintained by Europeans.

Why should apple allow storefronts on THEIR device, the EU rule was idiotic.

So basically I release a shitty nobody buys but Apple says it had 100M downloads and charges me $50M. Whoever decided this should go to jail. The EU should forbid the sales of Apple products.
Or, maybe, don’t tell Apple, or any other entity , how to run their business?

Yes, laws must tell, forbid and force Apple and the other entities -specially the ones who earn trillions- to don't use abusive tactics.

Making freeloading on others' business legal ain't good for business.

Why can't Apple charge their 30% like consoles and Steam do?
This, and people arguing against this are actually unknowingly siding with Microsoft, they are using their 3 trillion dollar war chest to convince the masses that they should be able to bypass IOS store, Android, and PSN ect.. Why should Apple and Sony not be able to collect 30% on something that they built? Microsoft wants to get paid from platforms they dont own and userbases they didn't build. That's bullshit and its disappointing that even some PlayStation fans have fallen for this propaganda, smh. This is part of thier plan to spend Sony out of business, read between the lines. Which company would be hurt most by this? Sony with PSN. How the fuck is Sony supposed to still keep giving us these high quality production AAA without that sweet sweet PSN revenue?
