CESA Game Industry Report 2024: global gaming market roughly doubled in 4 years

According to CESA the global gaming market generated in 2023 a total of 29.5 Trillion yen / $201.44B
  • By platform type:
    • Mobile: 17.4 Trillion yen / $118.81B (59%) -> 104.70% up vs 2019
    • PC: 6.4 T yen / $43.69B (22%) -> 148.15% up vs 2019
    • Console: 5.7 T yen / $38.91B (19%) -> 162.86% up vs 2019
  • By region:
    • East Asia: 12.5T yen / $85.34B, (42%, being Japan around 6.4%)
    • North America: 8.2T yen / $55.99B, (28%)
    • Europe: 5.3T yen / $36.18B, (18%)
    • Others: 3.5T yen / $23.90B, (12%)

As comparision, 2019 had a total of 15.7T yen, split by platform as:
  • Mobile: 8.5T yen / $58.04B (54%)
  • PC: 2.7T yen / $18.43B (24%)
  • Console: 3.5T yen / $23.90B (22%)

This period has been an intergenerational transitional period, where normally things are quieter. And also had the pandemic and big inflation, the issue with the ads in mobile plus other issues.

Considering everything, I think it's a miracle that the gaming market managed to double (in case of console and PC even more) its revenue in 4 years. We should be happy.

I agree and I hope things will stay this way so that the gaming industry stays active and more good stuff stays coming!

PC+ consoles combined cannot overtake mobile gaming in terms of revenue
True, it has been like that during several years. And this is considering that revenue growth in mobile has been seriously hurt by changes in policies related to privacy in advertisements, which now prevents mobile gamedevs to target the ads as accurately as before.

Global. Access more markets, sell more product. Doesn't mean the industry is more profitable it's just increased access.
