So weird. This is 100% a Pokemon experience in an open-world. The survival aspect doesn't change the whole genre. It's like crafting in BOTW.

Gamefreak could release exactly the same game without change anything and slap Pokemon on it and nobody would say "this is nothing like Pokemon".

Pals = Pokemon
Pal Sphere = Pokeball

So unique and so much creativity totally not like Pokemon 🤡🤡
Yeah the shit is Pokèmon.

SteamSpy used to be reliable when Valve allowed them to get the data from the APIs.
Valve closed the door.

Now it is just guesstimates.
It is a bit more reliable in games that already launched for years because they reach a point very close to the actual sales using Steam Achievements data.
But for games in launch windows they are fucked.
The put big ranges trying to mitigate the issue... 20m to 50m is basically a guesstimate without any data behind it.

But I already see cases of the actual sales (publisher giving them) be around 2m in Steam but SteamSpy showing 5m to 8m.

The real number is probably around 10M~ at this point, it's been a couple days since they haven't updated the count which was at 8M.

It's inaccurate across-the-board. It had Sekiro as having sold 10 million on Steam alone. Activision revealed not to long ago that it sold 10 million on all platforms

I think there's enough concrete sales numbers announced by publishers that could be correlated with solid steamdb activity numbers such that we could easily have generally agreeable estimates for Steam total sales. Like if we looked at active users at the time of a solid sales number announcement and averaged out a ratio across several games, it would be close enough to apply that ratio to games without official sales figures. It's fine to be like "SteamSpy is a joke", but a lot of Icon folks actually don't want to know the truth. They want to insist that the PC platform is only pirates (against all evidence) and completely discount the value of PC sales in multiplatform publishing.

SteamSpy numbers are complete BS; the last OFFICIAL number was 8 million only a few days ago. You don't suddenly jump from 8 million to 30 or even 20 million over the course of a weekend and some change.

This probably exposes how bad SteamSpy's API for calculating sales is nowadays.

Yeah PC sales seem to be doing some work lately.

We don't have a credible number on BG3's sales on Steam or sales relative to PS5. But it is beyond dispute that the game was a major seller for the year, and very likely the majority of sales were on Steam. This cannot be digested on Icon currently.

Harry Potter, I'd guess was not majority on Steam, but it clearly sold a fuckton.

That's huuuuuuge range of estimate. Totally not worthy even to make a thread about it. I mean, up to 30 million difference. LOL

Anyway, Palworld devs few days ago announced that Palworld sold 8 mil. on Steam. Much more official than that you won't get. Also, you can bet that Palworld devs would announce a 10 mil. number on Steam if that happened. Looks like still didn't.

I'm sure the team didn't expect this to become a viral hit, but I'm sure they left tens of millions of dollars on the table by not having a PS5 version ready and giving their game away for cheap on gamepass.
